Planely - who is using it - how are you finding it?

Added some flights and can see what others mean re privacy, if they supported friend lists and only showing flights to friends I think that'd be a step in the right direction, but as it is now, it works all right.

Ok, so I've been around for about a day, and a new member signed up and added their flights. Wow - we have a match (shock horror, it's an AFF'er attending the JQ Bash).

So I get an email:

At least one of your flights has had new Matches in the last 24 hours in either your flight or departure/arrival airports.

So I visit the site again. It shows the same screen about my flights (I have about 9 now up there). No idea which flight has had an additional match. No "Gold Star" next to my flight to give me a hint, no notification on the site etc etc.

Wow. Fantastic technology. Why can't the email say "Hey, you have new matches on:

xx_xx_ (Flight)
xx_xx_ (Airport)
xx_xx_ (Flight)

etc.

The more I use Planely, the more I feel it's a first year Uni student's attempt to become the next Facebook or LinkedIn. Unless some very serious work is done to the site, it will become a niche attraction for a small set of loyal users.

I can't see how it is complicated at the moment. There are ~12K users, and something like 20K flights in the system. Neither are huge numbers.

Send in the feedback Mal. It is a VERY early beta. Twitter was pretty average for the first year - give it time. I agree with your comments about not knowing which flight has the new match - I have 18 flights in June alone, so I am no idea where the new matches are, but I have communicated with some AFF'ers (I did contact you when you first popped up but I think the last name thing created problems as you said) and I have chatted to a German guy flying into Sydney for a conference.

I am happy to give it time - and am using my bluff account for email so no worries on privacy.

Cheers
Taez

Just worked fine for me...
Maybe you just don't have enough flights.... #snicker

Crash central

This is my last attempt at using it...

I have a match with you in August! Only thing is I am flying from International and you Domestic. There needs to be a distinction in my opinion to make it usable.

Just added a couple more lights to it, still basic, but being able to distinguish where users will find me could be useful.

This is cool and usable. I like it.

Just need to make the "Why are you flying" comment box visible to the others. That would be a simple fix for lounge identification. Then you could say "In Syd QF FLounge 1300 - 1630"

We'd love to know what you were doing when it crashed (froze?) on you. We have had some performance issues lately and are in the process of moving the site to a more stable hosting provider but that doesn't mean we can't try and help you in the meantime ;)

When it lists virgin flights, eg DJ1234, it also lists VA1234 etc, yet pax on the same flight under a VA/DJ designator will not show up in the list if you enter the other designator

The Flight Data on Planely is out of date.

for example:
I'm on JQ 560 MEL/BNE leaving at 0730
Planely says it leaves at 1030.

Not sure what the story is or if it is being updated? or if the site is unattended.

How did you get the flights into Planely? I do mine. Is TripIt and have never noticed it on the wrong time.

All the flights imported through tripit work fine, just the manually entered ones are the ones with errors.

I like tripit for my big itineraries, but i dont bother with the simple interstate internal flights

Have just sent a new booking to tripit (was using worldmate) and agree it makes uploading into planely a breeze.
Also like tripits automatic integration with gmail - it literally watches your inbox and grabs the flight details.

Joined the other day. No matches. Is here a plan to have an iPad or iPhone app? Maybe a search option for travel by others on a specific date to help with booking flights that have fellow AAF'rs on them ?

The last few times I've used it, I haven't had any matches either - and I'm talking SYD 6pm departure and a BKK morning departure: would have thought that those two would def have some close-ish matches!!

Maybe the site is out of money for promotion. I think its a great idea!! Maybe they need investors?

I've been getting a few hits doing the MEL-SYD run. I think however it does need cleaner integration. for example, it doesn't suck down the Tripit Itinerary automatically - you must log on for it to get it. I've forgotten more than once to do it, so i find that a pain.

I think if they had an easier means to import flights I think you'd get more hits.

But definitely needs more PR...

Well I have had nothing. Moreover apparently death star don't fly to SYD from HNL ( in spite of having just booked a flight) and QF don't fly to AKL anymore from BNE. There are too many bugs for my liking and a very slow response to questions about the site ........maybe it will get better in time. For now I will just stick to AFF. :-))

It seems to have somewhat turned into abandon-ware.

Not only are the flight schedules way off and non existant, things like previous trips remain on there (I cant meet anyone in the past.....)

Likewise AFF is still the way to go :)

Are you manually entering the flights? I get planely to pull them from Tripit. Much easier
