The actual phrase is "Offer only available to new Card applicants who apply via this web page and are approved ...".
* Offer only available to new Card applicants who apply via this web page and are approved by 15 December 2008
What does it mean by new card applicants? If i already have a Rewards Maximiser does this mean i wont get the point advantage or if you want to upgrade the card to the platinum?
In May I was offered the Qantas basic card as a completely new Amex member (Qantas must have given them my QFF number). I received 5,000 points.
Then in July(ish) I dumped it & switched to the platinum moneyback & rec'd the 5% off for 3 months etc etc.
A month or so ago I dumped that & switched to the Qantas Premium Card (applied online requesting to close the moneyback card) in an attempt to get the 5,000 join up & 9,000 after $500 first spend.
Guess what, they gave it to me!! I'm not 'new' to AMEX.
I have spent about $700 between May & Nov on AMEX Qantas cards & have been given 5,000 +5,000 + 9,000 = 19,000 bonus points.
Thought I would share this info.

Thanks for sharing your situation skybolt. I guess AMEX really wanted to hold onto you as a customer! Did you have to chase the points or did they automatically get credited to your QFF account?
Bear in mind, though, that applications for each Amex card usually results in a check of your credit file at Veda. While Amex may understand what all the Amex queries are about, if you apply for credit elsewhere they may not.
True, but big deal I don't plan applying for anything really anyway.
*note I have checked VEDA & the only enquiry made by AMEX was back in May at time of initial application.
Yep, the 30K offer appears to be gone.
FWIW, My first spend with this was an Annual Metcard for $1722 - 32,583 MR points posted the next day.
A cost saving regulation. Most stations did not take Amex anyway, only Visa/Mastercard. (also payment by Cheque has bitten the dust.)I noticed at stations a sign saying due to new Victorian regulations, payment by American Express and Diners Club was no longer permitted. What sort of regulation is that?
(You could also use Amex to order online and have the ticket(s) mailed to you (but not Yearly tickets); this is no longer the case ).
Maybe they have missed that one.I've never ordered online, but just checking a moment ago, Amex and Diners both came up as options for a weekly ticket?
they have dropped QF from their count!
Yes, they are dropping the QF points transfer in April I think it is. Total pain as I really liked this AmexPlat card and now need to search for another one.... Being as indecisive as I am this means months of farkelling to decide on what to do...
Walt----
PS I used to be indecisive, but now I am not so sure....
I applied for and received the Platinum CC using this promo in October. Qualifying spend would have been by mid November, but still have not received the 30k bonus points.
I rang Amex this morning and was transferred to MR. I have been told that I am eligible for the 30,000 points, but need to wait for 6 - 8 weeks from mid March (apparently the last date to apply for this card under the current promo).
So not very happy having to wait another 4 months to receive the points.
