Their recently announced financial performance figures would seem to counter what you are trying to infer. Domestic is 1 arm of Qantas that is actually doing really well.
Whilst not disputing what you say at all I then have to ask why QF sound like Harvey Norman lately with a sale every week :?:

I'm always a little sceptical about financial announcements. You need to be able to dig right into the numbers to see real performance.

Most statements and annual reports contain what I would call "weasel" words. Statements similar to " The 2011 second half performance will be better than the 2010 second half performance". That sounds good until you find out that the 2010 second half performance was the worst on record. (This is an example rather than an actual Qantas statement!!)

I'd say that they've just been giving their marketers a lot more rope for "reach out" to (I mean, spam) their customers recently.

And, I'd say that due to the good financial results QF has decided that this "strategy" is working for them and they will probably continue with it. Innovative holistic buzz-word synergy marketing, no doubt.

I think the sales are just about matchIng DJ, reacting. IME the QF sales have been pretty limited, with the sale fares only available on selected flights and rarely on the flights that I need. But then on the flights I need the red e deal fares have been $60 more than the non sale red e deal price. So I would guess the QF sales are just mopping up on a few non popular flights (ADL-SYD anyway).

The other place is SYD T2 and I recall one report that the lounge was checking there as well.
I can confirm a demand for my boarding pass was made by a T2 dragon. It was made with absolute glee in here voice, thinking she had caught me out. She even checked my details on her computer, to ensure i wasn't using an old BP.

What a disgrace customer service has become at QF. Simply officious instead of welcoming.

Definitely not an enjoyable way to start a journey these days!

Now back to a serious note and a very disturbing experience. I think we have been discussing lack of policing of Anytime access and they may now be checking.

Did my usual flash of the card in BNE earlier and was asked if I was checking in for my flight. I said no I have already checked-in for my flight and my boarding pass was in my pants pocket. Asked for my card and scanned it which is the first time I have seen the scanner turned on.

She said OK to go ahead and apologised for checking as they are required to check if people are actually flying today. Seems to be a late inforement of the recent 'enhancements'.

Perhaps I am flying at the wrong times but there is no doubt in my mind that the lounges are emptier than usual. In the BNE business lounge again today and there are plenty of spaces available and not as crowded as usual.

I also question the reason behind what appears to be at least on sale a week and sometimes more. There is still as sale on now for flights up to 13 April 2011 so loads leading up to Easter must have light loadings.

Why would you sell airfares at almost ~20% discount to cheapest lead-in price in the last month of travel unless loads were light?

It seems to me that the economy is a bit softer than you would think reading the papers. Retailers are still doing it tough. Stockmarkets heading south.

I don't think you are seeing an outcome of ATA removal!

Totally agree.

I don't think I was saying Anytime access (just love going off-topic) had anything to do with the perceived downturn in travel as I have noticed the reduced numbers in the past 5-6 months.

I'll go OT for just a moment also.

I can't believe that this thread still has legs. :(

Well it's either this one or the circus of hate that is the dress-standards thread.

Actually they are alike in many respects - the moral majority who want QF to enforce a subjective standard and keep the riif-raff out seem to be the same mob who gleefully cheer on the dragons who turn a blind eye to them breaking the rules and entering the lounges without establishing their right to be there.

Some call that hypocrisy - I call it a typical day at AFF.

Fair point - I hadn't thought of it that way!

I'm debating whether to give up my Qantas membership completely, solely because they allow people like me to enter the QP. :p

Why might she have thought that you were not travelling?

I did have a very quick response to my feedback about the mess in Adelaide last Monday, basically a complaint about having to get a BP and the lounge staff seemingly being incapable of working with the new system. I hope that hasn't prompted firmer enforcement.

The question remains on which flights can you get those fares? Any weekday peak hour flights?

Yes indeed! :)

....and whilst I like to travel in chino's, deck shoes, and a shirt with a collar, who am I to judge anyone else?

with apologies to the stubbies, singlets and thongs thread!

Despite what the minority believe it is an important 'enhancement' to a lot of Platinums. And it is not just about anytime access it is all about losing a benefit even if it was not an officilal benefit. Surely some people need to ask what is next and will it get the same sort of support as this one.

I love the melodrama. They're enforcing a rule!
And if you knew me you would know I was not being serious. I had the boarding pass in my pocket and I could have easily taken it out to show but I just wanted to stall and see if I can get a line starting behind me. Not to be though. ;)

Depends on which city pair.

I just had a quick look SYD-BNE return on March 28 and there is one flight available in morning SYD-BNE at $89 and a least 7 flights in afternoon/evening BNE-SYD at $89.

Also had a look at SYD-MEL return on March 28 and the same story going both ways with more than enough flights throughout the day to take advantage of the $89 spevial.

Obviously some days like Fridays the special may not exist or be very limited but we are talking about a special for airfares in the next Month.
