Like the little travel distance meter too. Only 97K travelled for me this year. Would have loved this feature in previous years when I was travelling a little more.

I just got the same thing.
I wonder what they are basing the 'traveled distance' meter on. Just QF/JQ? Oneworld? All QF airline partners?

I wonder if it's more or less innane than the P1 "Briefing"?! :p

Well they are trying... very trying!

Given that in the last issue of the P1 newsletter they gave us such amazing advice : (interview (? with whoever....)

"Do you have a top travel tip for our Platinum One members?

Always allow sufficient time for transfers between flights in case of unexpected delays."

OMG, I hadn't thought of that :/

"Do you have a top travel tip for our Platinum One members?

The top travel tip for WPs is how to check your baggage entitlements. Groundbreaking stuff.

They said I'm in the top 20%, which is nothing really.
The rest is a little odd...

So the new QF Loyalty team had a focus group and spent days at a resort thinking up ways to better serve their valued premium customers. "Oh I know!" said one highly paid consultant, "I think interacting with them more by means of a useless newsletter spam will make them feel more valued." She continued by stating "You know the feedback some other consultant made up saying a majority of P1 members love the Briefing suggests our other elite members will love special newsletters too!"

And after a long lunch with F wines they concluded that it was good, and directed the underlings to make cr*p up and create a mail merge.

Mine reckons I've only done 18,000kms in the past 12 months.

The fine print does say that the 'Total Number of kilometres flown is based on travel flying Qantas and partner airlines from 1 August 2017 to 31 July 2018 where your QFF Number was quoted in your booking'

It's telling me that I've done 97,265 kms in that period. However, calculating on GCM, I get ~125K. I'd be interested to know where the discrepancy comes in given I've calculated the flights based on what is in my point history for on QF...

C....Mine reckons I've only done 18,000kms in the past 12 months.

They said I'm in the top 20%,......

I think QF have invested far more thought/resources into this side of "personalization" than in actually thinking about useful content.

After the first few issues of the Plat One newsletter suddenly my personalized email highlighted that I was in the truly elite (based on km flown). As a proud AFF member I like to get a good deal, and thus obviously I attain/retain QF P1 for what I humbly suspect is far less than what most spend in $, even though I sure do so many may miles.... So by using certain criteria, they can justly make almost all members feel they are "better" than the rest - whether by km flown, amount of flights, etc etc. But I truly doubt that they tell anyone they are in the "top 20%" based on the QF profit margin they generate :)

And there I was thinking it was just me they had created the email just for me - after all it started with "xx_x,, welcome to your exclusive Platinum newsletter"

I did read through it to find out what was special, but there was nothing that I don't get in the normal frequent flyer emails. All a bit odd. But I did complete the four question survey to provide feedback - and would recommend everyone else to do the same, so the Loyalty Team can understand what works, and what doesn't :)

yes the whole km flown BS was such a fail for P1's so share the love!!

I think we figured out it doesn't include award flights at least, so revenue flights

Next one will have your most flown aircraft... well that's what the P1 issue had... and had so many problems with it.

quite laughable.

And of course.. QANTAS - "Consistently Inconsistent"(tm)

Based on my figure I'd say it's likely it would include award flights - will have to check the numbers though.

It’s funny to me that Platinums receive a newsletter and P1s receive a briefing. The amount of worthwhile information in the Platinum email is briefer than the P1 email.

Oh dear I really must curtail my cynical streak today.
