Good evening brains trust

I was wondering if someone could check my methodology and calculations please. I am looking at booking BNE - CPH in J on a reward ticket. The best option for me is on Singapore Airlines via SIN.

As of 1 June 2016 the points if booked through VA in J is 278000 return.

This is where I need to check my calculations because this difference is huge. If I book through KrisFlyer the same flight in J is 160000 return. If I book on line I get the 15% discount therefore the total points for return flight is 136000.

If I convert points from VA to KrisFlyer I need 183600 VA points get the 136000 KrisFlyer points. That's a 94400 VA point difference between booking through VA or KrisFlyer. When booking two tickets that's a huge difference.

Am I missing something or is this just the benefit of transferring to KrisFlyer and booking through them.

Thanks in advance.

All looks good on a points calculation basis. Obviously taxes play a part. I came to the same conclusion but for Suites instead of J. I'm going to try do SYD-SIN-FRA(stopover for 2 weeks)-JFK because the points for that extra leg are a tiny bit more than to just Europe...+$100 for one-way stopover.

. Obviously taxes play a part.
any comparison I have done between Velocity and Kris flyer, the huge taxes on Singapore airlines killls the deal. I remember one example a while ago. where could have flown Airasia/Scoot for the same cost as the Taxes in SQ

Virgin don't fly to Copenhagen

Use Velocity points for VA flights (where you can get a seat from the Rewards bucket), and KF points on SQ flights

Make sure the rewards seat you want is actually available before transferring points

Thanks, I was aware VA don't fly there I was going to book through VA for the Singapore Airlines flight.

Confusing post! You can use VA points to book SQ flights without transferring to SQ. And in most cases this will become more competitive when the changes come in to effect, especially for flights to Asia where it looks like it will make more sense to book SQ using Virgin points as the taxes and fees will be a lot less than booking direct through SQ for the exact same flights/metal.

Though it looks like in the OP's case the transfer makes sense.
