PM returning from Hawaii

Spot on.Not only did Bob Carr double the number of National Parks but he did not increase National Park staff and ratified the closing off of fire trails.

The current NSW Government is not without blame-the number of NP rangers has fallen on their watch.As well they have a pathetic target of hazard reduction burns-135,000 hectares per year when there are 7 million hectares of National Parks.This is way below the recommendations of every Royal commission held after a serious fire.

From what I have read the number of rangers has reduced by 30% some of which were forced redundancies by the current govt.

With under resourcing forget looking at targets for back burns, you can only do what can do if you’re a manager at NP.

indeed.. but priorities are likely set by others ?
Backburning is not easy to do and there is an element of risk , perhaps risk management priorities affect the process
As a kid I spent many a night burning firebreaks when I could/should have been doing homework

That’s what what I was getting at. Red tape means he workers often have to give up some the tasks they should be doing.

<snip>

And then he heads off on holiday to the US - and worse, to open a branch of the Hillsong church. At which event, he will NOT be introduced as a no-name member of the public, but as PM of Australia, thus implying that our country somehow supports these nutters. It's not a good look at the best of times, but while half the country is on fire, it's appalling.

I'm guessing you now know this was a total pox of a story and a deadset lie? How easy it is to get sucked in....

Appalling is the word!

He may not have done it because he cut his trip short if you recall. That doesn't mean it wasn't planned.

There's still no real explanation for why it took him an extra day to get home after it was announced he was coming home... unless he was in NYC, haha. He has not officially denied he was in NYC or was planning to go there, has he?

But a quick google shows no evidence one way or another that it was a lie. Or at least no categoric statement of such.

Dear suze2000 have you not flown home from the USA.Even from hawaii you cross the International Date line and arrive back in AUST.having missed a complete day.
Also do you realise that the flight time HNL-JFK is 9.5 hours and return 10 hours.
Therefore if he left HNL at lunch time the day after arrival he would arrive in NYC early morning the next day.Then perform the alleged duties in NYC and catch an evening plane back to HNL which would arrive after lunch on the next day.So to have done this in the 4 day holiday he would arrive in HNL on day 1.Days2,3 and 4 the trip to NYC and day 5 fly back to Aust.
I call true to this having been a lie.

Lol is this serious?

“LoL” I suspect it is but if you disagree you can say why.
Well, I’ll bite. Maybe suze2000 is 4 years old, but I doubt it. 😀

Because if you fly back from the US, *you* (on the plane) might "lose" a day, but from *our* POV, nobody has lost time. It took two days from when he was announced to be coming back to when he got back, in our time. And he was gone for way more than four days. Anyway, I accept he wasn't in NYC, but he still hasn't outright denied it and the amount of time he took coming back is still odd. If he got on the first plane back, surely it would have been - at worst - 15 hours from deciding to leave and arriving in Australia. I can't see how the PM could not have got a seat on any flight he wanted. Plus, I hate him and his behaviour since he got back has totally justified my dislike.

Your lotto numbers are a better chance of winning a jackpot than this story being within a galaxy of accuracy.

PM‘s visit to KI has been very positively received by the farmers who have lost everything and it is the victims who count. Interestingly they live in a State Labor seat yet were pleased to see Morrison visit.

Apart from he didn't seem to know there were 2 fatalities on KI and had to be corrected by the KI residents. Another whoopsie daisy....

Or maybe they were too polite to say anything. Let him come take some photos, tell everybody how good he is and then get rid of him. Sooner it's done the sooner it's over and the residents can get back to recovery work.

This is you on the 21st Dec:
He should also be aware that he has a public role and that sometimes he just needs to turn up, have a few sympathetic words and listen to the people, His advisors should have told him this and if they did, he should have listened.

The only time a PM should 'disappear' is when they're visiting the troops in a war zone. When this is occurs the press knows and maintains media silence until their return. This most recently occurred a couple of days ago when the Governor-General went to Iraq and Afghanistan.

The country is in a crisis and needs its leader to be front and centre to comfort and reassure the people. Also, to determine what is needed now and what can wait.

And your position now when the PM was on Kangaroo Island yesterday;

Or maybe they were too polite to say anything. Let him come take some photos, tell everybody how good he is and then get rid of him. Sooner it's done the sooner it's over and the residents can get back to recovery work.

Yeah. Whatever. They didn’t need to go on TV to say they appreciated his visit though, did they?
