So Qantas announces the Points Club with two tiers and entry level starting at 150k points. Want to speculate what this means?

  • Status credits for certain points earn/transfer
  • Free lounge passes upon reaching the first tier
  • J lounge for the second tier?
  • Will not include equivalent oneworld tier
I wonder how this will work in conjunction with your QFF status.

I wonder if it could be structured in a similar fashion to JAL Mileage Bank and JAL Global Club.

A JMB Crystal member (OWR, equiv QFF Silver) gets a bump up to OWS if they join JGC with an eligible credit card. Maybe Qantas would do the same thing if you earn a certain number of points on the ground?

From Qantas website ... 75000 status credits for lifetime platinum

The bonus status credits that may potentially apply will be interesting. A nice top up if you have no additional travel plans and need a small SC bump to re qualify.

I find this whole concept astonishing and frankly contemptuous of actual "frequent flyers". People in this category are of significant negative value to QF, and I fail to see why they deserve any extra consideration at all.

The program makes more money for QF than the whole of its international division, I would suggest it is highly valued to QF.

In the short term there is no doubt a gain for the airline; but this is achieved by greatly diluting the value of QFF for people who actually fly a lot. People who get lots of points from non-flying are already getting the chance to get very cheap flights: I fail to see how they merit anything more.

I assume it will be an extension on Qantas Money, allowing QFF access to your non-QF card transaction history. The big QFF data lake continues to grow...

"an exciting new way for Qantas Frequent Flyers to earn Qantas Points on everyday spend "

Reads like a new partner, or maybe an extension of an existing relationship (as sbor90 says, Qantas Money maybe)

The wording seems a bit different to what I would expect for Points Club

But, hey, we can all speculate until Tuesday :)

Finder seems to think this will launch on Tuesday, but judging from the wording of the media invite it could be anything.
The media event was for Qantas Car Insurance 😂
