Mrs Ikara flew to Hong Kong with QF last week from Sydney. On the way out she ordered and paid for some duty-free to be picked up on her return. Now, with all the dramas of the weekend she is returning home CX to Singapore and then JQ to Melbourne. Damn, the duty-free is in Sydney! Has this happened to anyone before? Any suggestions? Do we forget about it and try and claim the expense from Qantas? What else could she do?

Thanks
JB

Is it run by the same company as in Melbourne? Perhaps they can arrange something internally if that is the case, and the pickup could happen on Melbourne?

Whilst no it hasn't happened to me, call 1800 733 000 or +61 2 9384 4799 and let them know the changes ASAP (they will probably be very used to this right now).
Whilst I don't believe they will ship the DF down to MEL, I believe they will provide a refund and provided the same DF products are offered in MEL and Mrs Ikara will be able to purchase new replacement products prior to the customs line.

All good guys. Qantas have put her back onto her original flights (albeit 2 days later) so she'll be returning through Sydney. Thanks for the advice anyway.

Good to hear, however she should still notify the store that her flights have changed so they don't think she has forgotten to pick it up.

On my last trip there was a stapled statement advising me that if I failed to collect my duty free and passed through Customs that I would forfeit my purchase and that it would not be bought through for me.

Hvr. Thanks, but I'm kinda hoping that they realise that there have been a couple of delays to the QF schedule over the last couple of days. I know, the things you cough-u-me make an cough outa you and me.

Cheers
JB

If this were to happen in future - Duty Free not collected is generally refunded after a quick phone call (I may have forgotten to collect things before..)

A few years ago fog in Sydney saw me re-directed to Brisbane while flying CX. I eventually made it home to Sydney on a domestic flight. Meaning I missed collecting my duty free. A quick call to the Sydney duty free company and I was refunded without hesitation. I am sure it will be the same for every Australian airport.
