Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

I'm interested in what air service will look like to PER/BNE if they stay closed and SYD/MEL is open. If you have a choice of port in Australia would you serve one where you can carry 10 pax or one where you can carry 300 on your 777-300?

The only air services WA and QLD deserve are a few b-2’s carrying nukes.

Consider WHO – COVID19 Vaccine Tracker
7 Vaccines Approved for Use by WHO including 2 Chinese ones and one Indian one.
Consider the USA will be allowing vaccinated Europeans to travel by November, and yes, with AZ you are good to go. And rapid antigen tests are part of the solution. UK intend to video or supervise self testing, as cheating is too easy. And you have state govt's reneging on deals to open up, the most flagrant offender being WA.

Some Aust. government official will be saying if we honor WHO we must also accept that list of seven, how can we discriminate without getting too much flak? Especially after suppressing news from Uttar Pradesh and the 5 million treatment kits dispensed when there was not enough vaccine to go around. I understand some African countries are a long way from getting vaccine doses off WHO.

Balancing all the facts, NSW will be 85%, probably 90% vaccinated by then, and everyone will have had the opportunity to be vaccinated by they end of October, 1 November should be deemed freedom day. States wanting money for failing to meet the national plan should get no more federal handouts after that.

The ultimate embarrassment for Scomo, is explaining to USA and EEC that WA and QLD is really separate countries for now. So you passport cost is accordingly higher and restricted, depending which state you live in.

Scomo should instruct Human Services to terminate Covid support payments for all those in the tourism service and hospitality sectors come November 1, and let ther underperforming State govts to 'Please explain'.

I suspect skeleton services will remain from some of the carriers currently serving both cities with 10 pax a flight (eg SQ). Still a need for freight and if the federal government lifts the outbound restrictions there will probably be reasonable demand outbound.

I think it depends on what happens in the rest of the world. Why fly an aircraft to BNE if you can make money elsewhere?

Sorry but those states should not be allowed to have any outbound passengers
I’m genuinely curious how the legislative instrument will work for opening up. The easiest path for the Feds is to simply repeal the controls imposed by the Biosecurity Act. Any other option may represent discrimination against residents of other states and be subject to a constitutional challenge.

well said! I would, love to see ScMo and Josh F cut off all federal payments to QLD and WA when they refuse to open borders.

The states that have open borders can control the return using quarantine.
Home if you are a resident of that state or $3000 HQ at own expense if you are not. Bussed to the hotel from International arrivals.

But there won’t be any caps. The system won’t work as there’s too many people, could be thousands a day in home quarantine. You’ll have spread from home quarantine at least once and then boom WA and Queensland are in lockdown.

On the non-resident issue that won’t work either as states can send you an invoice but most likely will have difficulty enforcing payment particularly as you have no commitment to that state. You’ll also chew up your police enforcing that. HQ caps are tiny for a reason not to mention risk of spread from HQ.

While the Feds can repeal the current orders under the Biosecurity Act, states can still impose their own Health orders for arrivals. Could be quite messy.

Kind of like a reverse Kabul. This time the people are inside the airport trying to get out.

Because you have so many aircraft anyway which still aren't fully utilised, and you have freight to pickup too. For example SQ will still take some time to move beyond their skeleton schedule to many destinations, not just Australia. I just can't see SQ going through all of this and then suddenly stopping BNE services.

Of course QF won't service BNE and PER if they don't open up, but that doesn't mean carriers who've been serving those ports with low frequencies throughout nearly all of the pandemic, and certainly throughout all of the cap period, will suddenly just stop just because SYD and MEL open up.

How can they stop them? Federal government have responsiblity for international movement. We don't have such things as state citizenship. Trying to stop outbound passengers from certain states would be futile anyway, as someone, for example from QLD, could just fly out via SYD or MEL anyway.

Out yes. In, well I expect significantly demand in Tweed for people staying in the bubble for 14 days. Or they can just fly to Ballina and then catch a series of buses to Tweed and walk across the border, live on breakfast television.

Whilst not as soon as what I’d like (I think we should be travelling sooner) and would prefer even shorter than 7 days quarantine on return, overall I like what the NSW Deputy Premier had to say this morning on international travel (link set to start the video at the appropriate point):
