Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

…Thanks @Peter78 - really helpful.
An EU code sounds like it would cover all bases with our proposed trip. If I understand correctly it essentially provides evidence of vaccination ( won’t be unique to Italy as such).

My holiday is booked far away into the ether and glad I’ve got months to watch the changes, deal w the complexities and adapt. I refuse to entertain border stays shut and it all goes kaput .

PS - how exciting we are getting help from AFFers about actual travel plans (don’t include colony-lockdown-quarantine-roulette here)…

Doesn't look like there is any announcement coming today of final details that airlines need.

Can kicked further down the road by a week... I think Nov 1 date for international travel is in jeopardy now.

it’s deliberate. The feds have done their part. The state borders are closed by the states. Time for the focus to swing to where it belongs.
It’s deliberate but it’s also cowardice in the face of on rushing election. The feds control the international borders, there’s an agreed national plan, so set a date.

Unfortunately the bloke from marketing is spending too much time reading polls from marginal electorates and not enough time doing his job.

Apparently very few QF pilots to be stood up over the Xmas period, so Qantas isn't expecting much domestically.

I think the chance of international travel by Nov 1 has as much chance as pigs flying.

In fact after seeing the document yesterday showing that there will still be hotel quarantine from "red countries", it has made me completely lose hope of coming back to Oz in the next 6 months. That list of red countries is a complete unknown and could possibly be a very long list.

NSW Premier is about to give the 80% press conference. Since Gladys always said international travel starts at 80%, it should at least get a mention.

I live in Lake Macquarie and currently won't be able to travel to Wyong (10 Km away) until 1 November. It's a pretty big jump to think they will allow travel to London on the same day - but I hope they do!

I have been to Italy two weeks ago and I have been asked for my vaccination certificate (Pfizer in Australia, in July '21) a few times. Unless I got it wrong during the week I spent there, there is no thing such as an actual pass you get, it refers to the vaccination certificate.

Having said that, I cheated a bit by getting a EU certificate by walking into a pharmac_ in Germany. They looked at our Australian certificate and converted it into a EU one, complete with QR code, stating we had been vaccinated in Germany (which is not true). Right now, our Australian certificates don't have a QR code but most places in Italy scanned that code and got a green tick on their device, whereas Austria and Portugal only want to see the document - actually, in the nearly three weeks I have spent in Portugal, not one venue was interested in seeing any proof of vaccination, I guess that is the result of having 98% of your population vaccinated.

The above is off topic, I know, but on topic I emailed both my state and federal MP again today to ask for an update when more details on borders reopening are expected. In May, I met with our federal MP to discuss the situation at the time, she was only interested in hailing the governments achievements (she is a backbencher, I live on the Central Coast in NSW) and she didn't know anything. So I am not holding out much hope, if there is something of interest to report, I will do this here.
I hope I can go ti Italy as per of my Europe trip in April, but the rules will probably change a million times by then....so far most of the countries on my list dont need a pre flight covid test...within the EU..
