Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Still no news on how they will facilitate selling hotel quarantine seats to unvaxxed passengers.

Nov 1 is 10 days away and it would be pretty annoying if they haven't got a system up and running by then. There is only a 210/week limit so there will be a waiting list.

That would be annoying. Might motivate them to get vaccinated.

Its also applicable to fully vaccinated people who had no choice but to get either Sputnik V or Sinopharm and now cannot come because TGA does not recognize it.

It isn't really their fault that they could not get TGA recognized vaccines in their home country and now are being unfairly excluded.

For those who wilfully will not get any vaccine, screw them. Their choice. But it unfair to those who did the right thing and got vaccinated but still cannot enter.

AFAIK, only Singapore Airlines have a TGA vaccine mandate requirement to fly to Australia and they keep saying in every news and press release that they are waiting on further clarification from Government on how to facilitate unvaxxed in their travel caps.

Thai Airlines and Vietnam Airlines both are allowing non TGA recognized vaccines on board to Australia.

So it looks like Airlines are trying their best to not be discriminatory.

Poor Novax Djocovid. I'm not sure anti-vax is a stance that will advance the career of people who travel globally for tournaments, can't see this being only a single jurisdictional issue. Getting a passport is optional too but it would be equally disruptive to one's career to not do so.

Dare I suggest the tournament will be better for it... Novak's one of two players I can hardly stand watching. The other is Andy Murray. Unfortunately, the one time I got tickets to the AO Final, it was Novak and Andy playing. I couldn't choose who I wanted to lose more :D

Looks like EK and QR are sticking to their current schedules.
I was hoping they would switch to daily flights at least into Sydney.

Fair enough but why are they not releasing the rest of the seats on the flights for bookings? (compared to the current 20 pax/flight caps)
They probably still don't have enough detail about how the changes will work and it can take time to scale up catering and roster on staff etc.

Sorry but fairness has nothing to do with it, if you have had vaccine where the manufacturers have not shared their safety and efficacy results for international peer review, then its fair to wonder what are they hiding? We should not be blindly accepting vaccines from manufacturers who wont participate in the scientific process and subject their product to scrutiny.

Health of local populations comes first, those who you haven't had a recognised vaccine have the options of HQ on arrival (assuming you other wise qualify for entry) or paying for an approved vaccine before departure. Vaccine tourism already operating in many other parts of the world.

Now this is where the science becomes blurred.Studies show that reinfection is uncommon in those who have had covid and Novak has had Covid 19.
Here is one such study where the protection from prior infection was comparable to vaccination.
Protection offered from prior infection was 81.8% (95% confidence interval 76.6 to 85.8), and against symptomatic infection was 84.5% (95% confidence interval 77.9 to 89.1). This protection increased over time.
But note that the protection increased with time after infection whereas vaccines the protection declines with time.So why are we banning those who have had covid from entering Australia.Virtually the same risk as for fully vaccinated people.

Personally I'm totally not convinced the demand is there without international tourists. I've know a fair few people who wanted to come back but in last 6 months their view has turned around totally. Yes they sometimes want to come back for a holiday (e.g. Xmas) but the demand to get back immediately just doesn't seem to be there anywhere as much as it was.

Allowing international visitors would give the airlines a better guarantee of customers. From memory pre-covid international arrivals in Sydney was about 4.1 M/year, even assuming the Aussies all wanted to come back day 1 the backlog would be cleared within a week. And then what do the airlines do?

Not an option if airlines do not allow you on board.

So my fiance cannot get any other vaccine as she already got Sinopharm and airlines will not allow you to come on board after Nov 1 if you are not TGA vaccinated.

So after 18 long months of border closures, am I correct to assume that after Nov 1, the borders are still effectively closed for her for a indefinite point of time? Pretty sucky situation as the lifting of international travel ban has made it a LOT harder for her to come here.

You can see why I am pretty upset about discrimination against non TGA vaccinated people...

Also what do you think will happen when NSW opens the borders to tourists and international students? Half of them would be from countries with Sputnik V or Sinopharm. These vaccine shave been administered in the millions overseas.

TLDR: After Nov 1, my fiance cannot come to Australia and its like being back in March 2020 when borders closed. Soooooo close and then BAM. back to March 2020 after 18 months.

From what I have seen this Dr McRae seems to be just ... incorrect

Are we? As long as they are also vaccinated I do not believe they are prevented from arriving.
think the unvacc'd is only for aussies / perm residents?

Not an option if airlines do not allow you on board.

Repatriation flights dont require vaccine, just negative test.

There is an existing process for allocating seats to manage within the arrival caps, no reason to think airlines will suddenly forget how that works.

Will largely be a case of buyer beware, if you dont meet the no quarantine conditions and haven't been allocated a cap place, then expected to be denied entry and put on the first flight out, just like when people arrive without correct visas.

You totally miss the point.Previous infection is virtually the same in preventing infection as vaccination. So if you believe in the science people with prior covid should have the same treatment as vaccinated folk even if they haven't been vaccinated.
However I still urge those who have had covid to be vaccinated. It gives greater protection than just being vaccinated without prior disease.

The thing is proving vaccination is easy, proving prior infection will need a blood test.

There is no elevated medical risk for a covid 19 recovered patient having a covid 19 vaccine, so best there is only one rule - double jabbed with a approved vaccine you are welcome, if not HQ or no arrival for you. Simple.

It's actually highly recommended for recovered patients to still have their two shots of vaccine. So given that, I agree- get your double jab and that is it. I wonder why this is even so hard- my best guess it's all those moronic anti-vaxxers spreading incorrect information online.
