Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Easy. People live in those states and they want/need to get home/come in etc. Qld is still in the dark ages and a direct flight into BNE from overseas is the only sensible way in at the moment. A flight into SYD or MEL is actually worse because that just gets me on the end of the queue of 13,000 waiting -months- to be granted admission. Might become an option Nov 17 but ATM there's only a fluffy one pager.

I think SQ and others would still be losing money hand over fist on these capped flights - I see they have 2 flights a day into BNE so they might be trying to minimise their losses. Hopefully the cuts aren't due to changes to anticipated caps. If it costs you more money to fly than you get in revenue, then the cost effective option is cancel. And return? I paid for a premium cabin out and there were 2 PAX in J. There were as many crew as passengers.

Do we know for sure if these flights are losing money?

NSW government and SYD airport are spending hundreds of millions trying to attract foreign carriers back, so fairly certain they'd be welcome with open arms if they want to fly to SYD.

True - but if SQ has four daily flights out of SYD already... can they fill seven? Might be able to fill them coming in, but the outbound is also going to cost them money. We know at least some airlines are capped with the number of services they can provide, which is why I think QR and SQ introduced flights via CBR?

Freight is probably a significant factor - they've been flying the routes up until now so don't see why they wouldn't continue.

I said I don't know why the airlines would want to fly to BNE/PER, not the pax.

Yes, I phoned the AIR (1800 653 809) this afternoon and they created a link between my AIR entry and my UK ppt. I already have an international certificate linked to my AU ppt, of course. There is no option for a digital copy of this second international certificate to be sent out and I was told the paper copy would take 2-3 weeks to arrive by post.

I was in a phone queue only about 15 mins, endured 5 mins of recorded FAQs and then the process itself took about 10 mins. As well as the obvious ppt details I needed to provide proof of ID in the form of Medicare card number, BSB & a/c no. linked to Medicare and driver licence details.

After @Tawita's unhappy experience trying last week I had low expectations of this call but was pleasantly surprised. So do give it a go as the AIR systems and staff are now ready to deal with dual citizens holding a foreign ppt with no AU visa.
Fantastic, thanks for the update

Yeah, good point. I think it might be the long term PR, can't see any commercial reason. Not a lot of airlines flying in that aren't government owned/subsidised.

AUS/SIN have a very liberal Air Services treaty which allows for unrestricted flights from any airport in either country, uncapped.

Probably better chance having outbound pax out of SYD/MEL than BNE/PER.

Fiji Airways prices to LAX/SFO actually not too shabby. Will see what other people will experience in terms of transiting to and from Nadi when the time comes.

They could fly into SYD and out SYD-BNE-SIN.

Using QFF ASP - SIN $370 in taxes and 40K QFF, then $776 return Lufthansa SIN - CDG. This in Jan-Feb, pretty bloody good if you ask me.

I think we might be guilty of overstating how many planes and crews are available for SQ and other airlines at the moment. I suspect it would only take one or two maintenance issues or some crew unavailability to see some flights cancelled in favour of other more profitable routes (eg cancel SIN-BNE to keep SIN-SYD going).

I'm told the massive reductions into BNE are because the reduced cap into Qld has been continued -into some time in Dec it seems. Not sure what has happened with SA or WA on this.

SA quarantine is at home for 7 days until we hit 90% - Christmas Day prediction, then zero! Bring it on.

We (QLD) are going to be dead last on any airlines list :(

(Well WA will be deader last but that goes without saying!)

Oh, that is sad news. Another Skyteam carrier gone form Australia.
Only Korean Air and Vietnam left and both still have no open seats to SYD

I assume you specifically meant Skyteam to Asia? As DL is definitely still flying and has opened seats to SYD as of 1 Nov (or thereabouts).

Sorry if this is explained earlier, but for what travel purpose do you need to do this? Is this for entry into the UK that requires vaccination certificate linked in this way?

I am travelling to the USA and am a dual-citizen with current international certificate on my AU passport, but will need to travel on the USA passport. But as a US citizen I don't have any vaccination requirement to enter the US, so I think this won't be needed?

I believe that as of Nov 8 their new rules apply to all, you'll need testing if not vaccinated for sure.

Australia added to Singapore’s quarantine-free VTL from 8 Nov

It was only a matter of time. SQ and by extension Changi Airport Group make a stack of money off Australia, they must be keen as to get us back transiting through SIN.

Changi handled 68 million passengers in 2019.

👍👍👍 :):):) 🥂🥂🥂

We were supposed to travel MEL-SIN this afternoon. We moved to 7 Nov just in case this was announced. Will now delay another day or two. My partner's mother also keen to come and visit, so I think she'll come back with us, or delay until Nov 21 (when relaxation of dining and other rules in Singapore is anticipated).
