Premium Economy. Why?

It's still worth it, if you can get the ODU at the airport from discount Y. Something like an extra $250 for a 12-hour flight is pretty good value IMO.
The premium economy airfares on BA from memory were ~50% more than economy which made them worthwhile. The difference roughly equates to the amount you mention.

Only problem with booking BA economy, and hoping for an ODU to premium economy, is that you are only allowed 1 bag to check-in and additional bags are $60. Golf clubs for me are a must. Not sure of the luggage allowances for premium economy but BA pricing for premium economy is roughly the same as what QF charges.

and they were hideous - so much so, that being a member of the Chairman's Lounge I reported them - lack of service - lights out early and great unhappiness if they then were disturbed, etc etc.!

holy cough, sounds like we were on the EXACT same flight... except different destinations.....

That has happened to me in J LAX -SYD not impressed.

One personal comment from a Senior Hostie, now just retired, was there are two pay scales in the ranks, the younger staff are not encouraged to do the work and tell seniors they can do it as they are paid more.

What is ODU? Yet another term :-)
That is one of the common ones used and quite easy to understand.

It is some of the others that use that are quite annoying such as TT, TA, TP etc. An acronym is useful if it only has one meaning and is standard....

F = First
J = Business
Y+ = Premium Economy/Economy Plus
Y = (Full fare) Economy
UG = Upgrade
WP = (Wa**er) Platinum (Frequenty Flyer status level)

F, J, Y are used in the airline industry for fare levels for these classes, although some airlines have some differences in what letters they use for which fare levels. There is a post somewhere with all of these terms explained ... though you might need to search the internet for the text short forms. ;)

Thanks to Rob, Skip and Katie for the FF lingo explanation.

Cheers
