Are you currently holding other Amex cards? I've already got the velocity & edge - not sure i'm willing to take the $1200 risk! :p

yeah i have a bunch of others. and have held about half a dozen at any given time over the last 12 months, bank issued cards included.

What risk? Amex will refund the joining fee in full if you cancel the card in the first month, and pro-rata after that. Been there, done that ;)

... and if you need a referral feel free to use mine in the referrals section :)

done and done. didn't get approved straight away... so the waiting game.

May i ask, what the minimum income is for the 110k bonus?

Officially $65k but several people reported getting the card with lower income. It looks like AMEX does not check income details, they are probably happy with a decent credit score...

Just to confirm, I signed up and got a Velocity plat, then the Plat edge via the priceline deal (got 13.5K points), then just recently (with the help of M@rco Polo) The Plat charge (got 120K points).

Existing Amex Card and still got approved

Hi All,

I applied for this card last week and was approved instantly. Although I have an existing Amex card, advice from the forum said to tick No for this card, which is what I did. I received the card in 2 days!!

Also, the application says you get a free flight after the first year, however I confirmed with Amex over the phone that you can use the free Virgin flight straight away when you receive the card. Score!

Here is my referral link, so you can get a bonus 10000 points when you apply, so you will get 110000 points :D It took me a while how work out how to get this link, after you get the card you can go to www.amex.com.au/referfriend once you receive your card and then use it yourself to get yourself the bonus points for referring friends too.

There is an appropriate forum for refferal links and this is not it.

If you held a card in the past and cancelled 1 year ago, do they backdate your member since date on your new account or does it restart? My online portal still works to check old statements

Ticking 'no' would be pointless if you are already on their books. Your address will be on file as is your employers details. All data is likely checked against your credit file.

How many Amex cards do you have? I think I've read somewhere here that if you already have 2, then 3 is a no-go. Happy to be corrected.
.

With Amex issed CREDIT cards their limit is TWO credit cards. (Bank issued Amex credit cards are not considered by Amex in this)

You are also allowed to have CHARGE cards in addition to this. .

Spoke ken to a AMEX signup staff at DJs recently stating you can have up to 4 different AMEX cards at any given time. VISA/AMEX issued bank cards are not included. Master Card/Amex bank credit cards is considered an AMEX card. Amex will decline you on your 5th card the reason been they do not see why you require 5 different cards at the one time. However it is possible to give them a call and apply over the phone or for a valid reason why you want a 5th Amex card. So long you pay on time & owe nothing you've got a good credit rating. As I was concerned I couldn't take out my 3rd Credit Card but was approved instantly on the spot after consulting with DJs Amex sign up staff.

Always give a good reason for cancelling credit card(s). Lest they won't have any interest in signing you up again. If you cancel the AMEX card give it 3-4 months and you can sign up again & get bonus points or miles they are offering.

More data: they recently gave me my third credit card (direct AMEX), so no idea if the three is just a 'soft limit'.

I think the AMEX Direct issued card limit is 2 credit cards and 2 charge cards. I had to cancel my DJS card when I applied for the Velocity Platinum earlier this year. I'm also considering applying for the Platinum Charge card for the 120,000 point offer before it expires. I already have Gold charge card (annual fee cheaper than standalone Platinum edge) with free companion Platinum Edge. Thinking I could cancel Velocity Platinum for Platinum Reserve companion to the Platinum Charge - I'd then still have 2 credit and 2 charge cards.

Wondering if outside of 120,000 MR bonus, I would get a lot out of the Platinum Charge card given the value I'm already getting out of Citi Prestige. Would also mean transferring some Prestige Spend to Platinum Charge. Spent $500K on my Prestige last 12 months.

Interested in any other forum member's experience who holds both Prestige & Platinum Charge card.

I have previously held 3 at a time but have now been told my many different AMEX reps on the phone that the limit is 2. Not sure why that is. Is one of yours a charge card perhaps?

Well I had the Edge and Reserve, and recently got the Velocity Platinum for the bonus. I didn't talk to anyone, applied online, got referred (no instant online approval), then approved the next day. No other contact from AMEX.

Re: Existing Amex Card and still got approved

Hi, thinking of applying for a platinum card to get the 100k MR points offer. However, I only recently signed up in Sept 2015 for the Velocity Platinum card 100k offer. Reason to move is because I would prefer 1:1 MR KrisFlyer points instead of converting from Velocity at 1.35:1. Therefore, I am considering to cancel the Velocity card and re-sign up for the standard Platinum card.

Anyone experienced signing up for the latest platinum card and receive the bonus 100k while holding or just recently cancelled their current Amex issued card?

//edit: just realised the difference between a 'credit' and 'charge' card. but would still like to know if anyone has the same experience?
