Priority boarding on QF domestic - what is the story?

Ends up both inefficient (FA staffing general queue sitting there being paid to twiddle thumbs), and potentially incendiary (pax in general queue getting extremely antsy - and rightly so IMHO).

I disagree with this, while it would be inefficient waiting for all PB customers to board, however what I think is being pointed out is the fact that boarding for both priority and non PB begins at the same time. There should be a short period where only PB is being done before nonPB commences

If there's a PB pax waiting, they should get served. So if there's 10 PB pax waiting at the start of boarding, they go first then the others. If a PB pax comes up to the line (for instance if they are in the lounge when boarding starts), they should get served when they come to the PB line & the other line gets held.

Once general boarding has begun, if there are PB customers, then definitely they should be boarded prior to non-PB.Just clarifying that gate staff aren't 'twiddling thumbs' as pointed out, rather most, if not all of the PB line should be cleared before nonPB queue starts being boarded

Gonna disagree a little here. Say when boarding commences there are 6 people in priority queue and 150 in regular queue. Start boarding the PB queue exclusively, when pax 6 is processed another person joins the queue, so they also need to be processed prior to commencing the regular queue. Then as they are being processed another person joins the PB queue...and so on.

Ends up both inefficient (FA staffing general queue sitting there being paid to twiddle thumbs), and potentially incendiary (pax in general queue getting extremely antsy - and rightly so IMHO).
<snip>

I believe that both staff should do the PB which would clear the line quickly and then they can both do the regular line until (if) a PB pax comes when only the staff member on the PB side serves that pax. Then they continue to serve other pax as they arrive.

QF815 CBR-MEL

Premium boarding worked with what seemed to be 1 FA to scan each line individually. Signage was just the one sign between lines though...

QF462 MEL-SYD

Big failure.
Saw the big premium boarding sign on the right and the little one that's set up on the dividers pointing premium to the right. Walked down the right side and waited. After all the pax on the left hand side was processed it was my turn. I asked what happened with premium boarding and got a "sorry I thought you were waiting for someone and wasn't boarding". I had my SG card out ready to be scanned... To top it off the pax infront of me said, yeah there was premium boarding, it was the other line... He was standing in the left lane and once on board saw him sit in J.

I was flying in J, before someone jumps down my throat about why a SG was in the premium line.

What about this idea, if you want to board first be there first

PB happens first then once pleb boarding commences you join the line like everyone else.

4 Flights today and PB worked perfectly I am seeing a good change here from Qantas. Congrats now do the same with the rest of the business :D

That idea might be all well and good - except there's a specified benefit that should mean that's not necessary.

And QF call it Priority Boarding not Priority Queueing.

Remember back in Nov 2011 when QF first rolled out PB? Here is a screen shot of Au BT

And the pros and cons (including some interesting feedback from QF staff when being first rolled out) here:

So 2 years later and 3086 posts on how are we going?

I just scrolled down accidently too far and then saw this:

Okay, it made me laugh :D - but I'm easily pleased.

30 more and it'll look like i'm the only one who cared.

766 tonight, not too Premium...

Flight announced as 10mins late. 20mins out from that, pax still disembarking from inbound, everyone push to the RHS (PB) of the gate.

10mins later, pre boarding call: 1 point open, at this time boarding J and WP from RHS, rows 15-24 after from LHS...so far, so good.

After first half-dozen, pax in non-PB start to get impatient and interwieve into the PB line FA, seeing this, smiles and waves them Fwd, undoing all the work of the GA.

In this instance, one person let the process down.

My first failure in a long, long, time.

Regards,

BD

Success in Perth with QF589 today.

Two FAs were scanning BPs and a third Qantas staff member (not sure if ground staff or crew), Kristy, walked down the priority boarding lane 'reminding' PAX that it was only for WPs and J.

mrpooky.

QF627 BNE/MEL departing 4:00pm Gate 22 (ie. now)

As soon as the flight was called, I left the QP. Was directly behind the normal queue as the flight hadn't been called when I got there. Business queue pax were called - maybe 5 entered that queue. Was the 2nd into the line and no hold up. Sarah was very bubbly at scanner.

No photo - J queue was on the left (QP side) so believe it was correctly set up.

The F/A's have silver wings beneath the One World pin & name badge whereas ground staff don't.

Was there only one F/A to board ie 4 cabin crew on the flight?

Flew CNS-BNE Tues 14th no PB long line so decided for yesterday flight to wait in lounge only to find PB (with hand made sign - they are waiting for proper signs). The male attending gate stated they are introducing PB for afternoon flights.

QF400 MEL-SYD - January 19th - no enforcement. Arrived at the gate 5 mins before scheduled boarding and the process had started. I joined the premium line which was almost as long as the regular line. the line got longer as non status pax merged in from the side. :(

While we seem to have enjoyed a consistent improvement overall, I was sorry to hear this and have passed in on.
