Priority boarding on QF domestic - what is the story?

SYD-PER, last Friday: Priority boarding worked perfectly well and two cheeky monkeys in front of me were even told off by the gate agent for using it without a J ticket or FF status which I very much enjoyed :p

PER-SYD, Monday evening: All fine again, endless long line in the regular queue and free walk through in the priority line, together with a personal greeting by name from the gate agent.

Looking at those comments here, I seem to have been extremely lucky with this lately!

I sincerely hope boarding at Perth is headed in the right direction.
Been especially "scrum like" when the 747's involved.

Happy to report that "Premium" boarding actually worked at Gate 21 at MEL today.

I've come to the conclusion that it seems to work well where there is plenty of room to make two queues obvious, and badly where the area around the jetbridge is too narrow to effectively show there are two queues (and the scrum just pushes forward).

At least last Monday it went all smoothly and it was the 747 which seemed to be pretty full as far as I could tell from my nice upper deck seat :p

QF400 last Monday and QF427 on Friday were both 734's......so no priority boarding. I'm now 5 fails out of 6 for this year so far. Fortunately I have managed to avoid a QF domestic flight to SYD next week, but on the downside I have just added two more QF international connections through SYD for this year. :( (If only VA/DJ were part of an alliance!)

Recent Friday afternoon in Canberra, full flight (obviously), two FA's at the gate and no priority boarding!

I don't think there is any shame in posting an email to QF directly with flight number and date attached. Its the only way they can get on top of service failure if they are even interested. Its obvious (to me) by now that they don't do service audits or have any sort of ground/gate management in place. Send an email with useful detail to a board member.

[Edit: And/or, grab a gate agent, or supervisor (if there is one) and ask them where the priority lane is? Have them guide you to the head of the scrum. In other words, make the problem someone else's instead of always the poor bleedin customer.]

Board your flight at your convenience with priority boarding available at selected Domestic terminals* and on selected Qantas international flights§

* Available in Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane
§ Available on selected Qantas operated flights with a QF flight number on your ticket

It is very frustrating. I have given up making complaints to QF I have simply switched my business to DJ/VA now. It's all very sad.

An old one.
PER 26 Mar QF576 8am

Complete fail.
Big priority boarding sign put up on the wrong side of the two arrow sign.
Two queues formed with pretty much everyone unsure what line was which.

Obviously having red carpet helps, but it cant be too hard to get the big banner on the right side, or better have two big banners - one for priority, one for general.

What amazes me is that there simply is nobody at Qantas that cares.

Yes, I know, I'm floored actually. Top management smells a service under delivery thats been this way for ages - priority boarding. Then they make an open commitment, backed with advertising I seem to remember that this is whats going to happen from now on. Money is spent (new signs), presumably training is done (more money) .... yet, no consistent action on the ground and multiple recordable obvious failures to deliver.

Have they no pride whatsoever in what they do? I'd be _mightily_ annoyed as a senior manager, if I were embarrassed by my management team in this way. First would be the 'please explain', which better be good, then comes the axe and block.

..and that is exactly what I see. I'll clock up 5000 SC's this year of which 4000 will be on QF and they couldn't give a stuff that I have diverted over 1000 SC's to DJ with another 500 to come this year.

TonyHancock, I think your feelings are representative of quite a number of us. I haven't stepped on board QF since September and have switched my travel to VA. Doubt I'll step on board until at least September/October if I take the family to USA on holidays (and only because I am burning AA points - I would have been interested in trying VA's longhaul product).

I probably won't use QF's double SC unless I get some unlikely travel in June.

Anybody that has known me for a while knows how I was a complete QF-centric person before I was seduced by VA.

Don't They Know Who We Are?????

I got someone who seemed to care yesterday. I'm flying DJ for April, sent feedback to QF about the dismal situation with boarding in ADL after my last flight in March and mentioned that I'd be enjoying DJ boarding for the next month. Got a phone call yesterday, while in the QP before a last minute booking, asking if they could forward my email to the ADL airport manager.

Now let's wait and see if the Airport Manager can be bothered to actually do anything and make a change.

It's not that difficult QF, you are just making it seem that way.

I mainly board in ADL at around 6am I don't think many people (read staff) care at that hour. ;)
