Priority Luggage

A little over a year ago I flew a Dash 8 Charleville-BNE.

Got priority tag put on (not that it really matters with a Dash 8/200). Bag was the only one with any type of tag that turned up on the carousel ... 2nd last bag!

It was only the 30th bag or something in the set, but still annoying. Made me think that the baggage handler was laughing at me.

I find domestically that priority baggage tags do work fairly well. Even when they don't, I find that QF baggage retrieval is pretty quick anyway and the length of time waiting for luggage isn't that long

I have been very lucky with my bags always following the dictated "priority" with the exception of one flight home from Sydney when they were both near the end. My box of files for special handling were first but my suitcases were almost last. The baggage wasn't checked until 25 minutes before the flight and it was full so I can't complain really.

At the end of the day, on average it would appear that our bags are dealt with in a "priority" manner more than the everyday joe's.

Flew from Cairns to Brisbane last week luggage too twenty minutes our bags were third and second last

I did forget to mention that on QF513 in May the bags didn't start rolling until 25 minutes after we arrived at the gate. Fortunately I was in Business  so my suitcase was the first out. That made things feel so much better.

Can someone please explain to a mere flying mortal like myself, what QF priority luggage is?

Basically it's a Orange, Pink/Purple or Yellow tag attached to your baggage that supposedly shows the baggage handlers that your bag is priority and should be specially loaded/unloaded.

Orange is the ordinary "Priority" tag and is for Qantas Club members. Pink/Purple is the "Business" tag (also for SG FF'ers and WP's on domestic flights) and Yellow(I think!) is "First" tag - (Also for WP's on Intl flights where F is offered.)

Mal, I always wondered what those tags were for, I thought it was to make it easier to find my bags when they came off the belt, because they certainly make NO difference to when my bags come out. No matter what colour is on them, one of my bags pretty much always comes out as one of the last.:p

Anyone know the email address for the baggage handlers at QF, I will sned mal's post to them

I suggest next time you fly to Canberra, as an elite check some luggage.

Properly tagged it generally comes out in order. I am aware of at least two communiques over the last 5 years stressing the 'importance' of this.

FWIW, it is rare the Oz travel that I undertake where the QF 2 x & kg carry on limit is not sufficient for my needs.

hmmm...very optimistic. I fly almost solely CBR-MEL-CBR and coming into Canberra its often the case that the entire carousel is a sea of orange and pink tags with untagged bags pretty much in the minority and not always in the right order.

I work for a living, so there is little chance of me flying into Canberra. Only likelt if I decide to holiday there.

In my experience flying in the USA, I have never seen luggage arrive in less than 30 mins. Most times at DFW its well over 45 mins before the first bags arrive.

In your profession Reggie I think you could be of considerable use in Canberra....;)

I have been unlucky with CBR flights. They came out as one of the last 2 out of 4 times (but one of the times they only had Priority tags as opposed to Business tags), and that was after a long delay for the baggage to come out in the first place. Maybe CBR baggage handlers don't like my bags for some reason...

I did a bit more digging today - as far as CBR goes, it's seems like every few months the ground staff are reminded the order for bags to come out and after a few months they seem to forget. It appears to be a bit of a game - of course there are no winners.

Say what you will about CBR, where else in AUS can you go from door to door (plane to home) in 20 minutes?

Umm, OOL would beat that. Home in under 10 min and that includes getting out of the parking lot.

Just travel Thai J and the priority tags mean just that "PRIORITY". Never had any difficulties at BNE/BKK or HKT and no I only had star alliance priority tags not Royal Silk.

I think that I had to wait 5 min if they weren't already at the carousel waiting for me, specially BKK int.

Also one of my pet hates is important people who refuse to check luggage and carry on more than there allowance. I can now see why but it still makes me made when you get your seat and some jerk 5 rows away has put his other carry on where you need to put yours.

Travel on QF ex SIN or HKG and you will generally see what priority means ... I guess the ground staff make a point of loading the outbound ULDs in the correct sequence.

Do you remember learning about that englishman - Guy Fawkes, or that other peron the US are looking for - Osama. I would like to live a long and FULL life. I cringe everytime I go through security. I have made it an artform dodging the sniffer machine attendants.
