.... I cringe everytime I go through security. I have made it an artform dodging the sniffer machine attendants.

I think I have it worked out. I make myself look busy by putting my laptop back into my bag, and then whilst walking I am trying to re-clip my bag - the key is NO eye contact with the sniffer man..

Look no where else other than you bag clips, and make a diagonal line away from him/her.

Can't say it is fail safe. I did get stopped once...

Or have a WP tag hanging off your bag.. since I've put that on, I haven't been stopped once!

Kiwiflyer had a good system that was pretty much foolproof I think - shame he does't post here any more...

No system is foolproof when you are the only person going through the checkpoint at that time. Hmm, perhaps I was the fool in that situation  . Oh well, at least it only takes a less than a minute for me, but may be a whole different story for someone in Reggie's trade  .

Not been caught in Oz since I have adopted this one, did get caught at CDG though, but their system stinks, because all go through one scanner, and when you numbers uo its up.

It involves carrying wipes with an alcohol base to wipe computer (they collect any particle floating around) carryon bags, I soak the soles of my boots in the hotel bath tubs overnight, if no bath I scrub them with the flannel, I'm sure the cleaner hate me:-|

A colleague in the US was telling me of one of his experiences where, on the way to the airport, he walked across his recently fertilised lawn. As luck would have it he was singled out for secondary screening. Needless to say it was a very unpleasant experience for him trying to explain the origin of the material on the soles of his shoes

From my experience, which is mainly international, it makes a difference sometimes. As someone said earlier, LAX is quite good, as they have a separate area for Buisness/First. However, I've generally found that it works ok for direct flights, but if there is a change of airline along the way, the bags could be anywhere. Anyone else found this?

Generally most of my flights into SYD are after connections and rarely do my bags come off as a priority :(

Sorry to revive a comatose thread and come out of my long hibernation but I've started regular flights again after only occasional ones in the past two years.

Flew back from Perth recently and waited for my Priority bags (PS, QC) patiently watching the groups of bags. First batch: A couple of pink Business bags, a couple of Priority but mainly untagged. Second batch: all untagged. Third batch: quite a few Business and some Priority with plenty of untagged. Fourth batch: heaps of priority (including mine) and of course untagged. It was strange because they came out in very discrete groups. Normally you'd get one batch at first and then the rest all together. It was as though there was one guy running back to the plane with his Subaru Mighty Boy and box trailer. It was only a toy 737 so I'm not sure how many more batches there were as I sodded off when my bag turned up.

Made me think: Priority means absolutely nothing!

PS= Pleb Silver - that's right isn't it? Former Scumbag Gold (5 years).

PS are Plebs yes. ;) :p

I guess we've all had a bit of a cough about this at times but it just seems to be hit and miss.

It sounds like there were lots of bags though, was there only one flight on the carosuel? After arriving in Brisbane a couple of weeks ago, QF unloaded a PER 767 flight, a SYD 767 flight and a MEL 737 flight onto the one carosuel. Us SYD mob stood around and watched piles of PER bags (untagged) go around in circles and then MEL tags before finally SYD. However, Priority did still work and the first of the SYD bags had pink little tags and fortunately I was out of there. My colleague waited another 25 minutes for his untagged bag, mainly because the PER and MEL bags weren't being cleared and there was a lack of room on the carosuel.

IIRC though, SYD has significantly greater carosuel space compared to Brisbane so it should be a little better in peak times.

Warks,

Unfortunately PER seems to specialise in this treatment :!:

Everybody's a priority in CBR, aren't they :?:

Near enough! But they still seem to manage to select the non-priority/business bags to come out first.

Maybe I should have said 'Everybody believes they are a priority in CBR, don't they :?:'

LOL, sorry, my brain is not computing today (or any other day for that matter). I agree, they do!

I've always struggled with this and have come to the conclusion that the tags mean bugger all....the later your bags are checked in the more chance of them coming off first. I'm always one to get my three hours worth of booze so tend to check in early. Recently going AKL-SYD, I had a bit of a debacle where I misplaced my wallet...I told the QF staff I may return home to find my wallet. They said they would hold my bag in case I never returned.

At the gate they recognised me and got my bag on the plane....and it was first off. This is rare as I've found the Business/Priority tags to usually take a long time.

Perhaps just a little trick you could try...;)

(By the way...my wallet was actually in my checked luggage....don't even go there)
