Priority Pass Lounges

Unlimited and you're entitled to 1 guest, at $36/p it equates to $72 per venue :)

So wait... when they ask how are you paying, you say, "Priority Pass". Then they just ask for an ID and you give them, say, a DL, and that's it?

The flip side could be that when they pass these details onto PP, PP will search for your name and then, if your PP is linked to a credit card, you will be charged then if you are out of free passes. As for if you give them a name which isn't a member of PP, no idea....

From my experience don't think there is any reporting back to PP apart from swiping the card ? How can you give them a name other than what's mentioned on the PP card ?

That's pretty much it. They give you the bill, you say I have a PP, they ask for ID. They scan the PP. No boarding pass required so far.
Then you pay the delta if it goes over your threshold. They have been very encouraging about it. They'd suggest I should order more to the value of $36/pp since you can't use it again (as it's per 'visit' – perhaps this means per day?).

We have the unlimited PP so I can't say about further charges when out of free passes. Maybe it declines when they scan your PP pass upon bill payment.

The ID check is probably so people don't lend their PP card with friends and family.
 I'm guilty of this as I had considered lending it to friends/family flying with no lounge access.

I have the Pp that allows 2 free visits . I have used it for more than 2 visits and never been charged .

I'm using PriorityPass in BNE and SYD and love it.
Unlimited $72 per visit means a decent meal with alcohol each time I fly. Makes lounge access feel obsolete. Once they introduce it to MEL and PER I will happily let my QF status drop all the way to LTG :)

This loophole (or exploitation possibility) will obviously not last long, so make hay while the sun shines!

While the company behind all the bars and resturants do operate bars/restuarants in Melbourne, I am not sure they currently have any in Perth (although that is where they started)

(And yes, it is one operator behind all those bars and restaurants in Sydney and Brisbane)

Based on what exactly you say it's a loophole or exploitation? AMEX obviously don't see it this way.
Just couple of days ago I've received yet another promotional email: "Just show your Priority Pass Card to receive a AU$36 credit off the final bill at these seven great outlets... Remember, as a Platinum Card Member, you have unlimited complimentary access... You can also bring up to two guests". Since I already hold this card so they are not trying to sell me anything here but encourage me to use it more.

PriorityPass is not very popular in Australia. Some of the outlet operators barely knew how to operate the PP swiping machine. Said customers rarely use this card.

One logical change I can think about is maybe a requirement to show BP, although some landside lounges also don't check BPs. I guess there aren't that many people (who hold platinum cards) that will go all the way to the airport just to get a free meal.

(I know it can be done in SYD for $20 using the Opal trick and still don't believe many will do that regularly).

Ah:) You have forgotten the original Ansett and QF Pub lounges where there was no requirement to be flying so many used the free Ansett Bus to take members to the airport, especially on Fridays, then, being too drunk to drive, either the spouses collected them at 9 pm when the lounge closed, or they caught the bus back to the city!

Those were the days! :);)

Good times :)

If we were in the US I'd agree but here in Australia there aren't that many PriorityPass members with unlimited use compared to the number of Gold / Platinum airline members and others that hold all kinds of credit cards that come with lounge access.

Actually. This conversation has given me some ideas when seeing others off at airports. Usually we just flash QFWP cards to get access to the QF J Pub, but that's not always convenient. Given our usual travel status I thought PP was somewhat useless for us but maybe not!

Ps: There's coughies on ABC!

I believe Priority pass may not be popular as before these outlets joined the network I don't think there were many lounges offered here in oz ( if I'm not mistaken ).

.

Based on the fact they would be losing money by people hopping, I assume.

I would expect it to be limited to one use per person per port per day. But of course I may be wrong.

I haven't even had to show ID. Just say I'm ordering with Priority pass, scan the digital card on my phone and order $36 worth. No BP, no ID. It's been awesome!

I am thinking of signing up for PP as seems good value in Sydney

Are you basing that when you visit the PP Lounge or are you checking your credit card statement that's attached to your PP membership?

The special offer of lifetime AN Golden Wing for AUD50.00 was bargain of the century.

These folk were the most vocal about the introduction of having to present a boarding pass for an AN flight when anytime access ended.

Basing that on not being charged even 2-3 years hence

I had zero intention of testing whether I would be equally lucky, but stuffed up the change of PP membership year by a fortnight and inadvertently had a third visit.

The receipt for the visit came through in my Priority Pass account a week later, but nothing showed on my Citibank credit card ... until two days after that.

A $34.44 mistake.
