Problems attaching images

Hello everyone,

We have some good news for you! We have increased the maximum attachment size from 1000 KB to 20,000 KB. This means you can now upload and share larger and higher quality photos on our forum. You can still attach up to 10 images per message, and we have also disabled the width and height limitations, so you don't have to worry about resizing your photos.

We look forward to seeing your amazing photos. Please let us know if you have any questions or feedback.
Excellent. I was finding all photos from my new iPhone 15 were being rejected without resizing.

I'm still getting issues. Just "Oops! We ran into some problems." It's a 4MB photo; am I supposed to make them smaller before uploading?

Yep, I still can't upload a 3.1MB photo:

Maybe it's a Pixel/Android 14 thing? I'm using an 8 Pro myself. Pretty sure I could upload photos taken on my old Pixel 6 Pro as I used to upload photos to the Virgin Business Class meals thread semi-regularly. My attempt to upload my photo was done using Firefox and downloading the photo I took on my Pixel 8 Pro though.

I was uploading pics from my Pixel 5 for a long time with no issues, then in 2023 it stopped working.

I later upgraded to the Pixel 8 and the issue continued.

I haven't been able to directly upload 7 pro pictures either.
Any sort of edit and save fixes it.

Thank you all for the feedback and good to hear that some more members can now upload images again. The reason why uploading Google Pixel phone images still result in the error message is indeed not related to the size or format of the images, but to a Cloudflare rule to protect against "dangerous file" uploads. We are looking into this and will keep you updated on our progress.
Keep those examples coming, the more documented the easier it is for us to find solutions for everyone!

They're .jpg files though? Not like .heic or something. As mentioned by others, I was able to previously upload Pixel photos. The inability to upload started in I think the second half of the year

Hi,

Photos posting as a link rather than a pic or even a thumbnail. Am I doing something wrong?

iPhone 15. iOS 17.5.1.

It’s been doing it for a week or so but not always! 🤷‍♂️

I can't replicate this issue, sorry. Photos are posting fine for me and a few others that I checked with. Do you have any more details?

I occasionally get the issue if AFF doesn't like something about the file. Not sure if it is file type or size or what?

My workaround is to screenshot the image and then it loads fine

I’m still have this problem.

My work around is to email the photos to myself and use the Apple mail option to resize to a smaller size and then they post fine!

Also, a possible unintended consequence of larger files is I’m finding I’m chewing through eSIM data browsing AFF overseas! Like a lot of data. Does the platform compress files before displaying or just use their full native size?

I think I worked out why some photos are doing this. Xenforo will only show a link to the photo when the image you're trying to upload is simply too big.

If you have this problem again, as you've worked out, please reduce the image file size and then try posting again.

I'm not sure exactly what the maximum file size is, but I saw this today (for example) in a post whether the image was almost 4MB and around 4,000 x 6,000 pixels. Only a link to the photo file displayed. The issue you describe with eSIMs using lots of data, and the long page load times that very large images cause, are two reasons that the forum won't display such large images by default.

I don't believe Xenforo automatically compresses images anymore, but this is something that @admin is looking into.

Yes I have had the same problem recently so resizing has solved it. It took me a couple of posts to realise.
