I wonder why neither of the two domestic airlines offer the ability to put awards on hold like you can with AA and others?

I think you answered your own question ... neither major domestic does, so why should the other? So far they have not needed this as a differentiating factor, so no reason to offer the "service". Though I expect that if one did offer this option, the other may soon follow.

Given they have international competition that has this surely it must be a prod?? Pretty easy benefit to add, even if its only with J fares to start with!

I think that both QFF and Velocity Rewards believe they do not have enough competition from international programs to warrant expanding their services at this time. Things am change in the future.

Don't qf have a "oops i booked the wrong thing" guarantee up till midnight of the day of booking? You could say that is a type of hold.

Also haven't there been cases of qf putting awards on hold for wp one members who need to transfer points from a 3rd party source?

Would be useful for constructing RTWs, however the potential to game the system would be high.

But what about a 7 day hold at least a month out?

But what about a 7 day hold at least a month out?

Then your wife holds for 7 days, then your brother hodls for 7 days etc.

From a consumer end, it'd be great. But from an airline end, more cost, little (no) benefit.
