That does seem pretty steep to me. Almost a "go away" price...

I still havent used mine and do not expect to ever...

I note that mrssimongr (PG) hasnt had tags or Q card yet...

we have been waiting 4 weeks now for our PS 'kit' if there's such a thing.

4,200 points + $25, i.e. values points at 0.657c/pt
7,000 points, i.e. values points at 0.7136c/pt

Shame that other Oneworld elite members can't get these at a discount...

The pricing is outrageous.

The FF/Club card is already RFID and they give that to you for free...

$49.95 for a bag tag is just crazy for those that fly ocassionally, thankfully as a SG don't have to worry about paying but if I was a mere nb or not a ff member then I would have no desire to purchase the tag at that price.

I wouldn't purchase through Qantas...

I paid $25 for a Gold tag and that prototype black one looks strikingly similar to CL so it'll become very expensive given the old WP tags often fetch upwards of $40..

This SG still waiting for his first tags!

Do I seem to recall that replacement tags for WP/SG? etc would be provided free of charge? I'm getting an idea ......

Have never looked for these on eBay.

Where the hell is this user getting all the bag tags from?

eBay Seller: citygal82: Collectables, Tickets, Travel items on eBay Australia

There are quite a few finished auctions in their eBay history for Q tags too.

You know, the cynic in me recalls quite a few people reporting that their bags are arriving at their destination without the new tags. Perhaps someone is pinching them for profit?

Have I misunderstood something or would scanning the barcode on the back tell QF exactly who the tag belongs too? (or belonged too to be more accurate!)

The tag is not connected to the pax until they have checked in and linked the tag to the booking. They arent like the FF card.

Is that through the RFID side?

I wondered if the barcode on the tag matched the barcode on the FF card. I haven't got my tags with me so I can't check, but the barcode on the FF card certainly has my FF number incorporated into it.

They are completely unrelated. I am sure QF could track them if they wanted (I am sure they keep a record of who they issued each tag to). I expect that they might do this anyway to assess who is using them and who isn't, who is sharing them and who has them on hand luggage for status shows ;)

I just received my tag from that Ebayer. It came in a clear zip lock bag with a printout from the Qantas website about the tag, a little brochure about Qantas and the tag itself. The tag appears to be brand new with no obvious use and a blank contact detail field.

My guess is the person works close with Qantas and might have access to a few tags lying around...then again the person might be selling off unused tags or perhaps obtaining fresh ones from Qantas claiming the original ones were "lost"...

I don't think the number on the rear underneath the barcode relates to a particular FF, the manufacturing process would be too complex trying to relate one/two tags to a particular FF, package and post them in the midst of many thousands of other tags. I guess those who are interested could ring Qantas and ask them about it.

At the end of the day though, I rather pay $25 for it than what Qantas is asking, not to mention gold is a nicer colour too.

Meh, my earlier suggestion was kind of silly. There'd be lots of ways to get your hands on these if you knew how. Pinching them is the least likely I think.

Hmm interesting, how long have you been SG for?
I received mine not long after the general rollout commenced, making SG for the first time in 2009.

Have been SG for about 4 years now...
