Do I seem to recall that replacement tags for WP/SG? etc would be provided free of charge? I'm getting an idea ......

I think what we're more likely to see is an enhancement to the Platinum benefits:
Or wait to reach 2,400 Status credits for a choice of rewards

If you have not already nominated complimentary Gold membership for your partner, when you reach 2,400 Status credits in one membership year, you have the choice of one of the following rewards
  • complimentary Gold membership for a family member or friend or
  • three complimentary Qantas Valet Parking or Chauffeured Transfer invitations++ or
  • a bonus of 50,000 Qantas Frequent Flyer points
  • one complimentary Platinum Q bag tag *&^$#@
*&^$#@ Member must pay $24.95 delivery charge.

That price is ridiculous for a system they want to take-off (no pun intended).

I do wonder if the tags are actually costing them that much right now, because if they are… status pax are costing them a fortune for a change!

I believe that replacements are free for CL/WP/SG/PS members when the tags have been damaged - although I think you have to provide evidence of damage.

Is the $49.95 for one or two tags? (Seeing standard issue is 2 tags for those who get them free)

As far as tags for SG members go - I haven't received mine but about two weeks ago got an email saying "click this link to confirm your address details listed are correct and they will be sent soon". I still haven't received them yet, but in the meantime I've hit WP anyway, so I don't know if that will cancel the SG tags and then I'll get the WP kit soon, or if I might end up with both (that would be nice!)

Offer expires: 18 Mar 2025

- Earn up to 100,000 bonus Qantas Points*
- Enjoy an annual $450 Qantas travel credit
- Don't forget the two complimentary Qantas Club lounge invitations and two visits to the Amex Centurion Lounges in Melbourne and Sydney.

Can confirm that the tags are not linked to the FF until you got through the checkin.

Was travelling with my mother (NB) and had instructed her to grab my father's (WP) tag and put it on suitcase. I then checked in using my WP card and my mother's suitcase with my father's tag.

Complicated NOT

Qantas have advised that all along, that the tags themselves contain no personal information. The chip is linked to individual flight only. They have also promoted that they are happy for you to lend the tags to family or friends for their own use.

However, I have also heard that the barcode on the back is linked to the member that was issued with the card (ie. the tag is recorded against their membership in Qantas systems). Considering they put personalised letters in the same package as the tag, it is completely feasible that the tags themselves are allocated to specific members. It makes sense - if all goes horribly wrong, and the chip gets wiped somehow, they could then still track the tag back to the member using the barcode number.

Happy to be corrected on this if it's not right, but I have heard it in a couple of places.

I can't see why QF would put a barcode on the tags unless they were going to track them somehow, over and above the RFID method. It would make perfect sense to link the barcode to the member.

This SG still waiting for his first tags!

And so is this one! I would have thought that QF should have completed the roll out to CL, WP, SG and PS before they started to trying to sell the tags to everyone else!

I've thought for a while this roll out has been quite poorly executed.

Incidentally these seem to be going for approx $20/each on eBay.

qantas tag, Collectables, Tickets, Travel, qantas a380 items at low prices on eBay.com.au

You can even get a BLACK one.

And, apparently... RARE!

Qantas Permanent BagTag prototype BLACK RARE TAG (eBay item 230601626089 end time 05-Apr-11 17:24:23 AEST) : Collectables

Listed as a prototype... more like Chairmans Lounge:)

"This is the Black (B1) prototype (rare)"

eBay sellers really will try anything :)

I'm tempted to buy a couple of the red tags. At that price they will be far more exclusive and rarer than platinum tags!!! :) (Not that I am a status driven, one dimensional sort of being!)

Hmm weird, might be worth a e-mail/call to the FF call centre and find out what is happening.

Followed your advice and am now on hold with QF. Person on the phone has advised that there is nothing on my file regarding estimated send out time and that I will probably get them in a month or 2  :!:

Well thanks to a shipping and dispatch issue, I seem to have acquired four QF 'cupholders' as my original PS qualification kit got lost in the mail - but then magically arrived as if on the smelly wings of postal gremlins.

I *might* offload one or two of these, I might not. Yet to decide.

I'm SG and I only received mine after I ticked over into a new membership year on 31 March. I hadn't flown enough to requalify for gold but was close. Was offered the chance to provide future travel plans in order to requalify for gold, and after all that the bag tags arrived.

I have been SG for years and always have had over 1000SC's a year. I called back and they promised me to expedite the delivery to a couple of weeks.

Anybody ever asked for the spare set we could ask for online and actually received those? Just asking because I also never received those.

If you see red colour Q bag tags on ebay etc it is probably a Qantas employee selling theirs. We all got one as a gift.
