Q2 2014 Hilton Promotion. Double Points or Miles.

Nope. 3x points. Each double points offer is a bonus line based on base points.

Got it. Good to know if I ever book a 2X package.

I can't see that I ever would - HH must value their points pretty highly given the $ price increment to get the x2 package ... myself 0.5c/p is about as generous as I can get with HH points.

You generally get double base points, so it would be triple as a net result.

Generally it would be triple points but the Q2 promotion does not of course apply at Sydney, HSW and Perth. Put simply - it would if it did but it doesn't so it won't. :)

Yeah, it's not likely.

I'm with you on that score, but I have got recent redemptions which value a HH point at 0.7c.

Yes, granted. I scored an unbelievable redemption for 9 days in coughet last year, its great when you hit these but they are pretty rare. When 'buying' points I have to keep to my own average perception of value or less otherwise I'll get burned.

Wow what an exclusion list.but during this promotion the HH places we are staying at in the USA and UK are all participating so a little bonus.

I booked the double points promo for 1 night today, night for the folks in LA. Was 12 USD extra and will net around 1500 points, so pretty poor value overall.

I've just made a 5 night redemption booking at a DT that will return at least 3 cents per point.

Does that factor in the 5th night free? Very good value in these post-devaluation days!

At that rate, that'd make my recent 2 night HSP stay points worth $424.23.......I only paid $350 and that included canapés and breaky for 3 . I valued them at just under $100 so it does go to show, there are still some great wrangles left with HH yet!

It really bugs me when hotels opt out of promos.
They shouldn't have a choice.

https://hiltonhhonors.com/HH2_2014?lang=US The new promotion is out for stays May 1 -July 31 2014. Sadly it's of limited use for those staying in Australia through the period with Perth, Sydney and Melbourne South Wharf opting out.

I had the option of 1 or 2 nights in Perth ... as Perth Hilton opting out of promo, I only selected I night. So their loss of 1 nights room + bar bill / restaurant.
I wonder if the hotel just doesn't need to participate i.e they have high occupancy and therefore feel they are 'paying' for rooms that will be booked anyway. Especially with Perth where accommodation is very tight as it is.

I'm sure thats what it is - we're okay thanks mate, don't need your additional cost/promo as we're pulling in a pile of cash already.

The trouble is that when the dust settles it can seem a bit dishonest ... FF and points watchers will always be on the lookout for the hidden gotcha and will read the fine print, but most hotel guests wouldn't and will simply get stung or disappointed.

Why can't they run these things by region? Internally, if they get enough interest from the local hoteliers then they run the promo for all (no opt out), if they don't then there is no promo for that region.

Has any had experience with crediting of this?

I had a stay in ASP recently and it shows on HHonors.com as:

I do note the fine print: "Please allow six to eight weeks from completion of your stay for points or miles to appear in your HHonors account.", but generally in such promotions the bonus points/miles have posted all together.

I do points, but last promo with Virgin didn't work properly either, and the issue was on the VA side of things. Took many months, emails and then multiple PMs to VA AFF rep to fix.

Out of interest, do you value 346 VA points at more than 1731 HH points? at 2.5c vs 0.5c you would be about equal, I guess.

Easily @ 3½¢ per Velocity Point. (94K + $95 = 1 way VA Business transpacific).

Yes, I've had the same.

Double miles posted on the HH account and only the normal miles appearing at Velocity. I contacted Velocity about this and I really don't think they understood me as they sent me off to complete a 'missing points' web form which I think really more properly relates to non crediting of miles from a partner when booked via the velocity/virgin site rather than independently like this ... still, they said to me that they couldn't progress the claim unless I first did the form, so I've done that and will follow up with them again this week.

Arrgg!! I'm bracing myself for bidirectional finger pointing on this one.

I have to say, I'm not unhappy with the new points/miles earn scheme on HH ... I rarely stay at hiltons for just a single night, so I'm now tending to receive much more FF points than previously when it was fixed at 1000 points/stay.
