I just received an email from Qantas to say that I was in the top 5% of all Qantas points earners because I earnt 227,000 points. I would have thought that I would be a lot lower down than that

When you consider anyone with a QFF account, which is what, 13 million+ nowadays? I don't think it's that far-fetched. The vast majority of people a) don't fly very often, and b) don't really keep track of these things. Anyone Silver and up is going to be a "top earner" compared to the average.

Just to clarify I took 1 economy flight from ADL MEL one reward flight from SYD to ADL so it wasn't flying. It was all cards and shopping

Agree when you see the number of people posting about expiring points due to inactivity, it’s a real shock. It’s almost impossible to not earn Qantas points by just breathing

Didn’t get the email, but suspect I’d be somewhere between top 5% and top 1% based on what others have posted with my 330k earn

Apparently I used 900k points this year. Funny that, given my starting balance and my earn would be less then that number.

I think the system counts points usage in the number even if you subsequently cancelled the award booking, or if you made a change to an award booking and the points were credited and deducted again.
