I noticed on a forum discussion on airliners.net - that a Qantas Boeing 767 could be going to have a cabin refresh, including new IFE systems. It said it was separate to the iPad trial.

Has anyone else heard more on this?

Would be nice, considering some of the old work horses will be around for up to 6 years.

Sigh some of them are already 22 years old . They do really need a refit.

QF really need to take the 787 first and retire the 767. I can't see how they can continue to complain about fuel costs and maintenance and whatever yet so blatantly refuse to take a more efficient aircraft when the opportunity is there.

My suspicion is that on short haul (1-2.5hrs) there's not a great deal of cost difference between a 788 and a 763. Long haul is another matter, typically the newer a/c will win hands down. Hence why they'll go to JQ for southern europe. The 330s can do medium-haul (HNL, MNL etc) for QFin the medium term.

Given the 763s are well and truly paid for, the margin per (short haul) flight may not be as different as thought.

Sorry to dig this thread up but was considering starting a thread on VH-OGH anyway.

So this plane has Q Streaming and iPad’s on it now (should already be flying). Does anyone know which routes it’s regularly flying/is there a list of what flights it’s scheduled to operate in the next few weeks? I’m going to be on a 767 two days in a row, so was hoping to give the app a trial.

Anyone already flown on it and tried out the service?

Have not been lucky enough to travel , however i have seen it around ... I thought the trial was only for 6 weeks ??

I was hoping the trial continued on for a while, but the press released I’d read suggested it was a January trial, though it had started earlier it seems?

Either way, DRW doesn’t seem to be a destination.

I got lucky. Just boarded VH-OGH and looking forward to trying the iPad in the air. I'll endeavour to take photos/put it through its paces!

Maybe I'll have to stay in Brisbane for another week till the weather clears,I wouldn't mind another week here at the H.I.
(Not sure what my accountant would say though)

PS samh004 have a great trip mate, shame you can't make drinks tomorrow night but there are more important things in life.;)

I'm not so concerned about the cabin interior as the age and operating pressurized aircraft older than 20 years.

I obviously missed this post first time around.
It is not quite as simple as the 767 is grossly inefficient. They are actually quite efficient in many circumstances.

If the 767 is really as inefficient as you make out they would not still be in production. Boeing deliveries for 2011 had the 737, 777 and then the 767 in order of delivery numbers.

In 2011 the number of 767s ordered almost equalled the number of 787s ordered.

Having said all that I agree that the QF 767s desperately need a cabin refurb.

I have photos of the system with good and bad points to share but as my turnaround is barely half an hour they might have to wait.

Bottom line, it works very well. It also has a SIM in it that's always on, so I understand why they're very eager for the devices to be off for takeoff/landing but they're all running GSM mid flight. Funny that.

So they can use "Find My iPad" if one goes walkabouts perhaps?

Hi all,

Great to see that some of you have come across our Q Streaming pilot which is now up and running.

Everyone onboard our dedicated Boeing 767-300 aircraft (registration VH-OGH) will be provided with an Apple iPad in their seat pocket to access over 200 hours of programming. Later on in the pilot, you’ll be able to stream the on demand content from the familiarity of your own Wi-Fi enabled device.

Visit www.qantas.com/qstreaming for more information. Look forward to hearing more of your thoughts and feedback.
