Hi all,

Great to see that some of you have come across our Q Streaming pilot which is now up and running.

Everyone onboard our dedicated Boeing 767-300 aircraft (registration VH-OGH) will be provided with an Apple iPad in their seat pocket to access over 200 hours of programming. Later on in the pilot, you’ll be able to stream the on demand content from the familiarity of your own Wi-Fi enabled device.

Visit www.qantas.com/qstreaming for more information. Look forward to hearing more of your thoughts and feedback.

Red Roo

Thanks Red Roo, except it'll be a big hit-and-miss for many of us to try and catch the elusive trial aircraft VH-OGH.

Wish the trial were extended to more aircraft. (Yes, I know that's a lot of iPads.... but come on...)

I obviously missed this post first time around.
It is not quite as simple as the 767 is grossly inefficient. They are actually quite efficient in many circumstances.

If the 767 is really as inefficient as you make out they would not still be in production. Boeing deliveries for 2011 had the 737, 777 and then the 767 in order of delivery numbers.

In 2011 the number of 767s ordered almost equalled the number of 787s ordered.

Having said all that I agree that the QF 767s desperately need a cabin refurb.

I think that elbarto was specifically referring to QF's current 767 models (the old ones), not new 767's which would (at a guess) have better/more fuel efficient engines and other improvements (tweaks) added to over the years that improve fuel efficiency?

QF's current 767 interiors are starting to look really dated IMO, even though l'm in J tomorrow (SYD-PER), l will be scratching my head why some sort of referb wasn't done earlier?

Two reasons: the airline didn't expect the 787 to be delayed so much and the cost to refurbishment even 3 years ago was too much considering the aircraft will be retired within 10 years.

Have not been lucky enough to travel , however i have seen it around ... I thought the trial was only for 6 weeks ??
here is it's movements past week

Where did you get these details from? can u tell future movements of the aircraft?

AC refurbed their 763's because they are a relatively poor airline that will keep flying them for at least another 5 years unlike QF who are a relatively wealthy airline who will also still be flying them for at least another 5 years but treat their passengers like rubbish.

It is actaully amazing that the entire AC fleet was updated over the past few years to a consistent product yet QF have a completely inconsistent product.

I notice Red Roo had nothing to say about the cabin refit. You can assume that no cabin refits are happening to 763's. Just glue and cleaning fluid every now and again.

Even BA are refitting some of the long haul 767s. In fact they're getting a very thorough overhaul which was mainly brought on by the 787 delays (some rumours suggest Boeing is the one footing the bulk of the bill)

Note sure about BA but...

1) Isn't JQ getting the first lot of QF Groups 787's?

2) 10 years to be retired, from when? 3 years ago would make it 2019 for the last 767 to be retired? Imagine those 767's by 2019? If they are dated now....

LOL!
;););)

So does OGH still have the old video projector? Has it been removed or do they just not use it any more?

And as someone mentioned earlier, brand spanking 767's are still being rolled out. They must be pretty good.

Yes compo for late 787 deliveries but still a great airplane especially with the winglets

And still be ordered, 42 were ordered last year, so the line has a bit of work to do with 20 deliveries last year and a total backlog of 72 !

The tread was about the Qantas refresh plans for their 767's; is it fair to conclude from reading this thread those plans dont exist?

I certainly can't say for sure but I doubt it and the QF rep on the forum stayed out of it. Not that he/she would necessarily know either. I think they will just run them ragged, but what is replacing them? 787's eventually I suppose though some people say QF mainline won't be getting them, though I think that is not the official company line.

Qantas have already outlined their fleet strategy moving foreward, 787s to JQ, JQ A330s to Qf to replace 767s, with some 767 routes going back to 738s. With the latest rating downgrade, QF are looking at reducing capacity, I bet that means accelerated retirement of the 20+ year old aircraft, especially the 767 and 734!

That pretty much covers the subject there - but would also be worth thinking about as the 787's go into JQ and the A330's out of JQ into QF that there could be some refit or paint jobs at least, before the B763s are retired. Also don't forget that replacing some B763 services with B738's on mainline will tie up more B738's so the B734's may not be dissappearing as fast as we thought....

Don't forget the 734's are being replaced with new 737-800s as we speak. So i don't see it slowing the retirement of those.

Looks like that came from QANTAS News & Information - The QANTAS Source the Qantas Source

Thanks for that link - dunno why I hadn't found it earlier! :D

I guess its all about how quickly the B763's and B734's are pulled out of service and whether the B738's are arriving fast enough to replace that capacity, I suspect not, so it will mean capacity reductions in the network somewhere.
