Now to revive an old thread instead of start a new one.

I was just looking on the Qantas A380 website and they mention power for economy seats.

Is that available for every economy seat or just a clever marketing trick and outlets are only limited in the economy section?

Secondly, not that i would ever use it but how much are call costs and sending/receiving sms costs?

Edit by NM: I have split this off to a new thread to avoid confusion for people reading the earlier posts from a 2 year old thread.

Re: Qantas Unveils A380 Seat Details

I can't answer the inseat power question. But I can tell you a 2 minute call cost me AU$15

Seat guru is slightly wrong.

There is certainly a power point to the front right of 80A and presumably 71D and front left of 80K. More here (with pics): http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/community/your-questions/seat-power-on-an-a380-16520.html#post225873

Note that power is readily accessible from the row of seat in front of the row you are sitting in. So Exit row and bulkhead seats miss out.
The above is incorrect - bulkhead and exit seats do have power - where the TV monitors are stored - see milehighclub's next post.

Exit rows and bulk heads DO have in seat power. To find the plug, the TV monitor must be out.

Well there you go!

I looked almost every place in my row 66 trip but that was certainly not one of them. (I had been advise they were there so I did look extra hard - obviously not hard enough)

So Seat Guru is incorrect there as well!

Given i have seen 7 or 8 dollar a minute calls on normal mobiles in some countries i can't see this as much of a suprise to anybody about the costs, we all know it will cost a lot even if we don;t know how much a lot is.

I don't think the price has changed since implementation of the handsets ~10 years ago.

ISTR it's USD6 per minute or part thereof.

Not a huge suprise, but still when you see it on the bill it's not fun.

Just going OT a bit, I wonder how much the phones are actually used. I've never used one on QF, I was fiddling once and it connected me to an operator and I could hear someone, haha, lol ... then hungup.

I think mobile calls overseas are a rort too ... my roaming bill from New York was amazingly ........!! l  When I want to ring family, I will txt them or prank them and get them to call my AUS number as incoming is much cheaper than making outbound !
