Qantas A380 reliability issues creeping up again?

This whole A380 thing is sounding like a right total mess! Especially when Qantas are trying to restore some reputation! Surely by now Qantas is starting to realise what Emirates already has - there is no replacement for the A380 and so we had better work out how to keep the damn things flying!

When are the planes in Abu Dhabi due back?
Who knows - some of them have been in Abu Dhabi for so long that they now have UAE retirement visas, and Qantas have probably forgotten that they have some of them parked there. The whole thing is a debacle, and they are about to enter the busy season for flights to the U.S. with barely any working A380's available for the route.

My unprotected 9 hour layover in LAX coming off QF11 is starting to look like a tight connection due to these A380 issues.

I think QF just want to hold on until a350 and more 787s show up.
The a380 “can” make a load of money if they are filling the seats and utilisation is high (like now). But as demand starts to fall they start costing the airline a lot.

After the last couple of weeks, I’d be very worried having any unprotected layover before/ after an a380.

QF2 on Friday has now also been delayed 12 hours. A least there was a little more warning rather than having everyone at the airport.

I'm on that flight. Nice to have had the notice, but certainly keeping us busy teeing up another nights hotel and the call centre not being helpful with our connecting flight in Singapore.

least we should get UK262 compensation to soften the blow

It is nice to get notice, but it’s due to an earlier delay. This would be related to water pumps breaking down on an A380. Friends of mine were already in Singapore (having arrived on a different QF flight) when they heard their onwards flight to London would be significantly delayed.

Irrespective of cause of issues (be they A380/330/787/737....), IME every time there is a notable delay/cancellation, it's like it's the first time Qantas have had to deal with it, every single time, especially at o/s ports, and triple so if it happens with pax already at airport....

This is what amazes me about Qantas (and other airlines). Delays are a routine part of their business, but more often than not, the airline responds as if it has never experienced such a thing before. Their systems for dealing with delays are truly awful.

Judging by the seat map the delayed QF2 looks to be very empty down the back of the bus now.

Looks like Qantas has offloaded majority of passengers to other flights (I guess to avoid paying out the considerable pricey UK261). We were shifted to BA11 on 16/5

I'm on BA15 instead of QF2 because of this delay. On the upside, chance to see what these sleep pods in T5 are like. Posting a review on how bloody well the Auckland team sorted this out for me last night, when I get home on Saturday. Gloria did them proud.

...and if the A380s cause hell over the busy season we might get lucky and it puts a nail in VH's coffin so there's some ACTUAL new blood and change brought in to right the Qantas ship.

Cannot make this up. So moved from QF2 to BA15... plane isn't even at the gate. Towing it now... then it'll need cleaned.

So much for time in the Flounge in Changi...
