They appear to have been loaded with available inventory now.

If they treat a Chinese speaking J class pax like they don’t exist, it’s probably the best that they are shutting down the service. If there is a Chinese speaking FA in the Y cabin, the least the CSM can do is to ask this FA to speak to the pax a few times during the flight.

And if there is no Chinese speaking FA for a flight to China, they are so lucky nothing happened that they have to rely on a 3rd party (pax) to facilitate.

To be honest, I was surprised there was a full flight between PVG-SIN based on an online review

I was just on PVG - SYD a few days ago in J. Majority Aussies on the whole flight. J full with no chinese speaker FA in the cabin. On the whole flight there was only 1 chinese FA speaker whose Chinese honestly sounded worse than mine. I had to help the older Chinese couple seated nearby with how to use their headphones into the slot. I was also going to show them the mattress cover but they fell asleep first.

Downthe back at least 150 spare seats as my cousin was getting a staff ticket and was watching it. She actually initially wanted me to help her parents as they didn't speak english, but realised the J load was full and Y was completely open.

Also worst J service I've had in QF for a while CSM did apologise to me 45 mins into the flight when he made the rounds as it was a lot of "new staff" but I'd say it took him a whole cabin and 45 mins to get to me already is off script. Flown enough QF J to know they're supposed to go by status order for meals and other things. Didn't offer mattress help. Shoved all the spare blankets and mattress into my overhead bin so I was wondering where my jacket went. Food on the menu was also eh for me at best granted thag MU isn't much better in this department.

If she's past security, good luck. I would legitimately just get to PVG late if possible.

Past security and immigration, its pretty barren. Even the first class lounge is very average.

Disney is "nearby" if thats of interest, but yes otherwise I'd just show up to the airport later.

Is it safe to assume that check in counters will stay open until 1.45am?

She has managed to delay her airport transfer so able to spend a bit more time at the hotel, with some work colleagues who are there for a few more days.

Hopefully the lounges stay open and she can relax in there before the flight. Not ideal but it is what it is. Not many people on the flight when i look at the seating chart.

They listened to feedback from their customers who have given up using qantas points therefore no need to collect them.

Yeah it shows that for all routes that the calculator can't resolve. The BNE-WLG route showed up like that for quite a while before it was fixed.

China's Premier is due to land in Canberra on June 17, and if he makes a similar announcement for Australian citizens, then surely it would be enough to justify Qantas keeping PVG, right?

NZ has been on China's good list from the moment china opened up while Australia has been on their "bad" list - do not visit until very recently where its now "neutral".

There's significantly more political tension between Aus and China than NZ and China.

It seems China and Australia are finally moving on. The ABC have just reported that Premier Li is “expected” to announce visa-free travel for Australians visiting China.

Australia's potential inclusion in China's visa-free program marks a significant gesture, following similar arrangements offered to 12 other countries including France, Germany, and New Zealand.

The policy is aimed at boosting China's tourism sector, which has recorded a significantly low number of foreign visitors this year.

The number of visitors reached just 30 per cent of 2019 figures.

IMO I think this would be enough to prompt Qantas to at least consider to reverse the decision to scrap Shanghai. I think just like how many Chinese students, tourists and businesspeople prefer flying Chinese airlines to Australia, most Australians would likely prefer flying Qantas to China whether it be for holiday or business (significantly made easier with visa-free travel)

IMO I think this would be enough to prompt Qantas to at least consider to reverse the decision to scrap Shanghai.

I don’t think so to be honest - this is just a possible reset but I don’t see the demand from China as they are going bankrupt!!! Look at Evergrande!!!

At the expense of which service?
They haven’t got enough aircraft have they and I wouldn’t think the route makes enough money anyway. With the price the Chinese carriers are charging I’d hardly think it’s worth it for QF

It's not just Chinese tourists on those flights. Lots of people here visiting china as well to see family and friends.

Also thr people willing to travel to places like Australia are middle to upper middle to begin with. They have plenty of money to travel.

Yes. But they need to go home too.

Also the economic situation affects younger generation and the poorer more than the boomer and middle to upper middle class. Those are the largest demographic and the ones in the tier 1 cities still happily go on vacations regularly. They get paid pensions that are pretty comfortable these days.

But the expected announcement from China is targeting Australians visiting China, not the other way around. Visa-free travel to China would almost certainly trigger a surge in demand for China, from the Australian side, and I think that would be to Qantas' benefit.

but the australian public would more likely visit other places too - just my opinion, no basis of fact in this guess here... hope you are correct... but i doubt it personally...
