Really? Are you quite sure about that?

Perhaps you might reply to something more substantive, like my query whether Qantas actually had the aeroplanes to get back into China and which routes you would cancel to see them fly there. Just putting 🤣 against every comment you don’t like really isn’t very thoughtful.

Take away the students and Chinese diaspora who will routinely travel on Chinese airlines
And take away the travellers to Bali and South East Asia who will be very difficult to budge from those destinations.

Japan is infinitely more attractive especially during winter ski season as well.

Apart from business travel, China will remain a niche travel destination requiring organised tour groups whose travel arrangements won't necessarily include QF but rather whichever airline gives them the best deal.

I suspect @Cruiser Elite will still fly via SIN.

Regardless of the quality of Qantas' product, I doubt they can ever be price competitive with the Chinese carriers due to their much higher cost base.
 
MEL/SYD can go 1 stop into many ports in China on MU or CZ currently for $2600 return which is an absolute bargain
That be true. I was more thinking the economy crowd, which is where QF seems to be struggling, and part of QF’s appeal is to those who won’t fly Chinese carriers, so one stops on various other carriers are perhaps more appealing alternatives to QF.

Tianjin which I haven’t travelled with have flights from Sydney to Xian one stop for $480 return on an A330 for those wanting to visit the Terricotta warriors.
China Eastern has one stop flights to Beijing from MEL/SYD for $580 return so with SkyTeam status you would get lounge access.
Even Cathay are sub $850 return to China so I’m not sure QF can compete on price with that

China Eastern has their direct flights to Xian (same plane same flight number but with a stop in Wuhan) for $473 return on some days… theres no money to be made in Mainland China.

The JV probably had cost sharing along with profits and was a win win with MU leveraging the might of QFF whilst QF was basically outsourcing China flying with MU’s tremendous reach and growing network down under. IIRC Jetstar HK was supposed to build a network in mainland China connecting passengers to and from QF’s longhauls into HKG, the MU JV basically did that for QF.
 
A $200 fare with a $400 cancellation fee. I'd love to cancel then tell Qantas, 'The cancellation penalty has been sent for processing. It may take up to 12 weeks to be received.'
Just like the no-show penalty, the fee only applies against the value of the ticket if you want to re-book or refund whatever remains of the ticket
 
Quick update - the FINAL flight of QF 129/130 PVG Service was operated by VH-QPE, and was delayed in outbound by 1 hr into PVG last night, & the return flight by 2.5 hours into SYD this morning (28/07/2024)
 
When one door (or oneworld) closes, a Star (Alliance connecting partner) is born?
