Not opening another thread, but now Qantas Amex have a 30000 points offer.

American Express

Of course this is 20000 point not as good as the original one.

If you value Qantas domestic business class travel you would be a mug to not use your Amex Ultimate card to pay the fiscal fiends at the Tax Office over the phone rather than pay them any other way.
It is 36000 points each way say Perth Sydney and the cost is 0.8 cents a point(1.5 points for 1.25% fee). That is $288 plus the taxes each way.
A special Thank you to Serfty for his posts on this subject.

I currently run an Amex Platinum CC (transferred by Amex when they closed the gold Rewards Maximiser program) without the flights for $192 pa. but obviously can't transfer points to QFF. I currently don't have any Qantas/Amex cards.

After reading many of the threads re. the Qantas Ultimate Point 50,000 point offer, I applied today via the link https://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/memberSpecials/cards/qantas-american-express-ultimate which is still active.

Following that, I called Amex and discussed whether they were able to offer any incentives for running both cards. Based on the fact that I held a complementary card (the Amex Platinumm CC) they advised that the annual fee would be $250 instead of $450. I'm not sure if my annual $40k spend was a factor. I mentioned that I just applied online for the current offer, and there was no mention that I wouldn't be awarded the 50,000 points. I will be active in dialogue with Amex if they don't appear.

Hope this of some help for those considering signing up.

I would assume that one could purchase $4k worth of gift cards would satisfy the spend requirement; (remember those many Wish Gift Cards purchases during those 10:1 promo)

If the above is true, then this could be the decider for those who are contemplating signing up to the Utlimate 50K promo but are reluctant to do so because of the spend criteria within 3 months.

I just did the same to see if I could get the fee reduced to $250. I was transferred to a 2nd person who told me they will waive the fee :)

Well I did the $4000 spend in just 2 months so am waiting for the 42500 points.

I guess the last 2500 will not post until I take the flight I booked with the card.

I think you'll find the CC transaction using Qantas Airways will actually trigger the 6-8 week points depositing process rather than taking the actual flight at a later date.

I changed to this in lieu of Amex Gold & new card arrived in the mail today. Next project: trying to get out of paying the $450.00 annual membership!

Today's the last chance to apply for this and still get the 50,000 points!

Thanks for the heads up.

Applied (on the last day) and card arrived in the mail today. Took a bit longer as I had to fill out some extra paperwork that AMEX sent to me (residents of the ACT need to provide more information on assets, monthly expenses, etc).

It's my first direct AMEX (excluding corporate charge cards I've been issued), so I have "Member since 10". Received a 5 figure limit, which is more than I expected after seeing the "Ultimate Application Denied" thread, and it should supplement my NAB Qantas Gold nicely (although I'll probably move that up to Platinum shortly as I keep hitting the monthly points cap).

I have a $4500 "pay later" booking on Qantas.com that's due in a few weeks. Sounds like a perfect opportunity to put it on the card and get the full 50,000 points right off the bat :D

Does anyone know if Qantas carbon offset purchase qualifies as a spend on Qantas to receive the 2,500 points?

Whooha 42500 points dumped into my QFF account today.

Thanks for reminding me. Mine turned up today too.Dunno if anyone knows - can I book my domestic flight, receive the e-ticket etc, then cancel the card? how will that affect my booking?

Amex offers better flight redemptions ex PER

As discussed previously ex PER redemptions are available to the East Coast I guess geographically because PER is far away from everything however what you can't do is fly ex SYD to PER.

Ex DRW you cannot redeem any ticket, mind you I knew that before I signed up however Amex said I could use it ex PER or any of the other cities on offer if I chose to.

For AFFers on the East Coast to maximise your use of the 'free ticket' you could get two trips to PER by piggy backing airfares eg:

a) Buy a cheap web fare or redeem on points SYD/PER 20JUL with the return leg PER/SYD say 20AUG which would actually represent your 4th & final sector

b) Utilise the Amex ticket PER/SYD 25JUL returning SYD/PER maybe 17AUG

The end result is you have two return trips SYD/PER 20-25 July and 17-20 August as opposed to 'wasting' an ex SYD Amex redemption to ADL/BNE or MEL when you could possibly buy a return fare for less than AUD450.00.

Like any good financial institution Amex reserve the right to move the goal posts so I'm sure if they saw a sudden increase in redemption fares ex PER they may put a halt to it for people who don't reside in WA.

Paying council rates and body corporate plus a couple of trips to the dentist has meant I haven't had to buy gift cards yet to meet the minimum spend quota. I probably should wait until my holidays are over as I'll probably find that even without trying to spend that I in fact do. :p :p

Cheers

Just wondering whether booking a car hire via qantas.com consititutes a Qantas transaction, or it still goes to third party?

I am trying to find a most economical way to trigger my flight availability. Previously I was able to buy small amount of points online (top-up) but now they have cut that option to redeem award only ....
