I just did the same to see if I could get the fee reduced to $250. I was transferred to a 2nd person who told me they will waive the fee :)

Just had a call from AMEX cs re the above call and was I happy with the outcome?

In recogition of my loyalty, they are giving me 2 points per $ on the card for the next 20000 or to December. I'm not sure if the cap is 20000 (5000 extra pts) spent or 20000 bonus points.

This card gets better and better :)

I must be too soft. I called and asked and was told categorically that no fee waiver would be forthcoming. What is everyone saying to get it reduced/waived?

Then you just cancel it, this card is not worth that value plus AMEX is not very welcome in most merchants.

AMEX is not very welcome at most merchants?

Thats a fairly broad statement. I shudder to think where you are shopping if this is the case.

There are no points earning limits on Ultimate.
Purchases 1.5 points/dollar.
Qantas Products and flights 2.5 points/dollar.
Income proof required.
Maximum credit limit $100,000.
You cannot put this card into a credit balance without a chance of the card getting suspended.

Really?? Why? They suspend you for making them more money on commissions with no risk to them that you'll default? That's crazy-talk!

AMEX are not a deposit taking institution (a Bank) and therefore if you run the account in credit you are breaching their terms and conditions AND they are breaking the law so they have to refund you any credit balances and/or suspend the account.

Indeed, the annual fee is high, but at least for one year, 50000 pts + a return flight to the east from PER, the fee has been good value. It's only a bonus to get the fee reduced or waived. Clearly it is possible, from the experiences of AFF members in this thread.

Agreed!

This happened to me last month, my first month with the card.
Loaded it up for a big ATO spend and the card was suspended. I had to call to get it unlocked and was told I should use charge card for this type of use!

I have just rung and had the annual fee waived, hoping I'm going to get the same follow up call as you. ;)

Thank you American Express:

That was worth the effort of signing up :)

Don't forget to pay all/any tax bills to the Australian Taxation Office on the card.
Most of their documents still don't say you can use your card but you can.
It is a QF point for a cost of 0.83 cents per point.
See you out there.....

My view remains pay those taxes on your card then its potentially....sleeper seat, great food, bubbles and are we there yet?

Sorry if someone's said it before, but how does one pay an ATO bill via AMEX? I can't find it anywhere on the ATO bills?

thanks
