Qantas is adding more flights from Sydney and Melbourne to Tasmania as of 29 October: Qantas boosts flights to Hobart, Launceston and Devonport - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller

Also from 29 October, an extra Adelaide-Canberra flight plus upgrading of one Melbourne-Canberra QantasLink flight from Q300 to Q400: Qantas adds extra daily flights between Canberra and Adelaide - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller

Q400's??? Are they replacing all flights with this aircraft?? Mixed emotions about this..

This Q400 flight for HBA has been in the works for a year at least, so no surprises there!

It gives them a lot more flexibility to throw extra summer capacity onto the very very seasonal HBA route with more choice of flight times than if they put another 73H on. I wouldn't be suprised if more Q400 flights get loaded for this summer.

The quite large capacity increase to LST is fantastic, QF Link is smashing it there & I'm happy to have more options out of LST!!

I know a certain member will be happy about the DPO increases ;)

I still think its strange that Qantas operates a lounge (let alone flights) in Devonport, a city of only 25,000 people, and less than an hour away from launceston.

Well, an interesting decision to bring Q400's to HBA. Will definitely try to get on one, last time I was on a prop was 2 years ago, a JAL Dash-8, and I loved it.

I guess it won't be too far off until there is a 2nd Q400 between Melbourne and Hobart, operating around lunchtime. Now if only QF would reintroduce some flights to OOL, as well as the morning CNS-SYD service.

Catchment though is the entire NW coast not just DPO

Lots of agribusiness - and remember they used to service Burnie as well before choosing to develop DPO route.

The connections scheduled from Perth via Melbourne to Hobart are not impressive with the changes forecast . . . plus the price incorporating the Q400 is exhorbitant. I have had on occasions, due to urgent family issues, needed to get to Hobart on short notice. From November, the latest you can leave Perth to arrive in Hobart the same day, is 10:50 whereas currently it is 12:10. An hour and 20 minutes may not seem like a lot of time, but believe me it can make all the difference..!!!

NOT impressed..!!!

But what's the issue? They have put on an extra flight now and are pretty much at the same times. (excl the extra flight).

Have you looked at the prices on offer via the Q400? that is one issue . . . Also, the timing of the flight ex Perth to make the connection that is (or can be), another issue . . . Also, now even when you have more time up your sleeve when booking, it has limited the fare buckets to choose from with less flights available to connect you, so that's another issue

So I still say I am NOT impressed..!!!

They were just loaded into the GDS today so i assume it has to go through the normal pricing processes. Give it a few days and i'm sure it will be inline with the other flights.

Jetstar have changed schedules as well!! Doing my head in!!

Last flight from MEL to HBA TU/WE/TH leaves at 1550!! - The QF Q400 leaves at 1810... How am I spose to get a flight from NTL - HBA when the only flights I can book leave at 0600 from NTL on Jetstar??

QF have I think one flight MEL-ADL already that uses a Q400 and you need to keep your eyes open so you don't book it by mistake. No chance of that with the Canberra service as there is only one morning and one evening flight and this new one is during the day. I don't mind the odd turbo prop flight but not for business trips but it's nice to know there's more options.

The ADL flights have flight numbers 2066/2067 so pretty easy to spot and avoid if required. The aircraft operate onwards to PLO.

Yes, you're right, unless you're in a rush and not paying attention like me - as is normally the case when I book work flights. Still, I haven't been caught yet lol

I have a suspicion that this may disrupt a JASA Canberra/Sydney/Hobart run. Flight 1019 SYD/HBA now departs at 0925 instead of 1415. Flight 1020 departs at 1155 rather than 1040. A quick check of the website shows it is possible to get a JASA fare using 1019, but you depart Canberra at a very early hour.
However no option is coming up using 1020.

To reap the rewards of the HBA express JASA you must be committed, perhaps now even more so :)

I've been caught with that before. I didn't think much of the booking until I later checked the flight time :|

In fact you can now do a return in a day as the aircraft returns to Sydney after landing in Hobart. You leave Canberra at 7.30am and back in Canberra at 4.15pm.
