Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Friday's QF9 menu...what will I choose???View attachment 123032
I envy you with these choices.
I flew BNE-HKG yesterday Friday on QF 97.
The only main course option containing a meat at all was a chicken sandwich - everything else vegetarian and or spicy.
The salad course contained only some green things.
Is it not possible to offer a meat course like beef, pork or lamb on each long distance service.
Maybe I am the exception but I am a bit sick of the "healthy" options this Perry guy is forcing onto us!

QF782 BNE/CNS 16/4/18 9:50am departure

Water or sparkling
Choices: glazed bacon (in maple syrup) with pumpkin tart, fresh fruit salad and yogurt, smoked Turkey roasted sandwich

Not seen the bacon with pumpkin tart previously.

Quite nice. Shame the portion was rather small.

Havent seen these round plates on shorter domestic routes before (unlike virgin). Definitely looks better than the rectangular dish of old. And presentation seems to have improved.

7CAD9AB9-1A37-4DD6-ADDC-4DE6A60D9E1B.jpeg BNE-SYD, last week dinner flight. After two hours in the wonderful Brisbane business lounge, I was already quite full with food but hey, I still love to eat in the sky. Offered water or water pre-boarding and decided for water on this occasion :p Once in the air, we were offered a choice of grilled lamb or some strange sounding salad with hazel nuts. While not being a big fan of lamb generally, I decided for the “proper” meal nevertheless. So did the entire rows 1 and 2 leaving some poor fellows in row 3 rather disappointed with a salad that no one wanted. I also noted that these salads went back half eaten, what a disaster for those poor people!

My lamb turned out surprisingly well, it was a rather decent cut of meat which is not what you usually get. The salady thing on the side was rather strange, it consisted of one single piece of cauliflower, barley, Kale or spinach or something similarly disgustingly green and, some grilled almonds. Why you would offer two food choices, one containing hazel nuts and one containing almonds is a riddle to me- someone how doesn’t like (or worse, is allergic to) nuts would have a real issue that could be easily avoided with some planning and/or use of brain. Oh well

I managed to peel out most of the ugly green mess and the rest of the meal was rather tasty. The green sauce which looks like mint sauce was, in fact, not mint sauce. I guess it was meant to be a surprise twist as it didn’t contain any mint at all, rather tasted like lime and probably something else which I coukdn’t identify. I usually don’t eat deserts but the little white chocolate and raspberry tart was too tempting to not eat. As was a second (and third) glass of Aussie Cabernet Sauvignon- it was quite nice but apologies, don’t remember the brand. I will remember the bottle once it shows up in some mixed dozen from Epiqure as it usually does a month it two later

All in all a really nice flight and the -elderly but very experienced- crew was typical Qantas when they’re one of the better ones: Fun, smiling, very Aussie and never shy to top up the booze.

Flew MEL-BNE J yesterday on the 12.10pm service and even though the CSM was great the offering was pathetic ( sorry no pics )....offered a bottle of water before take off !!!!....Really !!!....Lunch was offered with the choice of potato and leek soup, a toasted salami sandwich or goats cheese salad....must say this weak offering is typical for this flight !!!....So Mrs Pyffii had the salad and left it...2 pieces of sweet potato and 3 pieces of eggplant with gloats cheese on top....must have cost all of $2 !!!....I had the soup which was nice but a bit creamy....Thankfully lunch in the lounge beforehand was wonderful so wasnt hungry ( I had assumed the pathetic offering !! )....And we paid for this flight as still part of our DONE5 ex JNB but there is no way I would pay for domestic business.

QF655 CNS/BNE 20/4 17:15 departure

Water or sparkling
Choices: bocconcini salad or lamb with cauliflower (jalapeno dressing - caution - hot!)

QF609 BNE/MEL 21/4 7am departure

Water or cloudy apple juice pre departure

Choices:
Bircher muesli or egg white omelette with pork sausage, beans, spinach with mushroom

Very impressed with service CSM Andrea Pinder given a short domestic flight. Chatty. Offered meal service first (even though I was in row 2). Asked if I wanted tea or coffee served with meal or later. Not used to (nor expected) that level of service on domestic J.

Nice. I believe general QF J domestic service standards state a choice of meal be held back for P1s but interesting to see you were served first. I’ve noticed meal orders taken in, presumably, status order on JetConnect flights but served in row order.

Very rarely have I noted particular special treatment in terms of meal offering priority etc UNLESS pax ahead are traveling NRSA (ie: staff) or late upgrades (CNA) then they tend to offer those pax a tray and bread and a drink then come back to them with the revenue/status pax offered meals first, but usually in row order.

There has been the odd occasion where it's been reasonably clear that preference has been given to me as a P1 for a choice. Nice touch but given domestic and the general food standards(see above comments re MEL-BNE) it's not a big deal either way.

I was in row 1 once (at the time bronze) and the CSM served row 2 before me. I thought she’d forgotten to take my order so I said something and the loud smack down was brutal. So I can tell you with complete authority from this rude CSM that you’re served in order of FF status. “You’re only bronze, we serve platinum 1 first”... I had previously noticed that the CSM was subjecting this poor man in row 2, to ridiculous amounts of chatting (annoying) and flirting and “yes, Mr ___”. Oh God she was the worst kind of wannabe groupie, don’t get me started... I can only assume she has self esteem issues.

Big rookie mistake? We only ever do it once. You can laugh about it now though. :)

So true DC3, I would never do it again... it taught me that even when you get to the pointy end of the plane, there's always someone "better" than you. I thought I'd finally made it but sadly no, rookie mistake indeed, there was still plenty of opportunity to demean me as a J pax... it seemed so unfair as I'm such a great passenger... I don't even make eye contact with Y pax as they trudge through J to get to cattle class, as I don't want them to think I'm feeling smug about being in J... and we've all travelled in Y and secretly yearned to be that person up front... I can't believe I got shirtfronted by a CSM! Ha ha, Joke was on me!

QF1756 BNE/CNS 29/4 19:40 departure

Eggplant salad or chicken curry with naan.
Not sure what type of curry it was supposed to be. I wouldn't choose this option again.

Otherwise good service from Qantaslink staff

3498EE66-3ADC-480F-A99C-8641316382F8.jpeg SYD-PER Friday 27th April, afternoon “lunch” flight. Choice of Maggie Beer Red sparkling or water offered. I knew already but still asked “Is this alcoholic” to then show an unhappy face when told not. The steward told me “Oh common, it’s Maggie Beer, that’s all good stuff!”. Well, as others here have pointed out, it was certainly not “good stuff”.

Lunch choices were a bit meh because I had that lamb three times in a row now so was a bit over it. Selected the pie instead which was, indeed, a delicious pie but still only a pie (I’m used to pies only at someone’s leaving afternoon tea at work or as a drunken snack at night after a night out- to me, it’s everything but a “full” meal”). The coleslaw that was served with it contained far too many chunks of sellary which is an absolute crime in my eyes but at least they were so big that I could easily pick them all out! The soup I got as a starter tasted as boring as a Cannellini Bean soup sounds which is a shame because usually I like Qantas’ soup offerings. The green salad on the side was extremely uninspired, at least a little piece of tomato or anything but green salad would have been nice as a garnish at least.

What stroke me odd was the timing of everything but I haven’t been on a Perth flight for a while so maybe it’s normal. It seemed to me as if the crew tried to “draw out” the meal to cover the entire 4+ hours but maybe they were just slack as some of the crew were the really old “beasts” that you don’t get that often anymore these days. One old guy came across as if moving his fingers is alredy too much an ask and one of his female colleagues (with the biggest lip injections i’ve ever seen outside of Hollywood) was outright rude to many of the passengers. Well, wether connected or not, everything took ages between courses so the starter was served around 2 hours into the flight. We did get a drink service first and the Bloody Mary was better than what I remember on Qantas so probably the highlight of the trip: Pre-mix US Bloody Mary from the tin with added Worcester Sauce from a little squeezy pouch and a slice of lemon- wow, haven’t had such a good in-flight Bloody Mary in ages! I was thoroughly impressed with that effort.

Shortly before landing, crew came through with a desert trolley, very nicely presented like on international flights and I selected the cheese platter which was the usual Qantas Domestic stuff, nice enough cheeses though, especially the Stilton tasted really nice:

All in all an okay flight which was mostly due to some (not all) crew members being a bit off which is a rare case i’d say. Oh- and about the order of taking the meal choices, no “in order of status” at all here. Crew went down the A aisle first one after another and as I was in 2F I thought I might miss out. Luckily, at the end of the A seats (and randomly some, but not all, of the middle seats), she came around back to 1F and started to go back from there again. Very odd and a reason for me to from now on prefer the “left side” over the “right side” which in the past never was even part of my consideration set. Would be interesting of that’s common on the A330 or just a random outlier if a generally rather odd crew.

I am based in Perth so all east west flights for me... the meal is not normally drawn out but it certainly isn't rushed as it's a 4hrs+ flight (5 to BNE)...

That cheese plate is just like one I had PER > BNE and it was really, really pleasant.

I've had crew take an aisle each before, so I think it may be the luck of the draw who favours what system. But I'm surprised they didn't serve you first Berlin, I know you're a prolific flyer... how odd.

Dinner flight

I had the beef brisket, which was very tender and quite tasty. Alternative was a caeser salad which also looked quite nice.
