Qantas Business Class meals & menus

SYD-ADL dinner flight. Meant to be 19:20 but was after 9pm thanks to storms in Brisbane and a decision to hold us to accommodate pax from a later, cancelled flight. (Many of whom grumbled when they boarded, perhaps not realising they were boarding a plane where we had all waited an hour for them at our inconvenience but could/should have gone without them - ungrateful sods).

Two drinks offered pre-meal. Great service from Sharon the CSM and Lauren the other upfront attendant.

Dinner was some kind of salad or a pepper beef.

Given how long the food had been in the warmer I feared it would be terrible. But it was actually pretty nice.

Delay aside, good flight.

Well time to load my meals over the last week (which included just missing @kermatu in PER):

Sun 9/6 QF 627 BNE/MEL

Trying to remember what it was - beef but that’s all I recall (perhaps beef in black bean sauce). Was tasty - everything cooked well

I was completely blindsided by the delightful red wine served - knowing the label I was thrilled to assist a couple of other knowledgeable pax to drain 3 bottles on this sector - we left one behind, simply no time.

PDB - multi flavored juice which hit the spot , very refreshing

Oh no, it’s the dreaded Sept 2018 menu that @kermatu alluded to upthread. Thankfully I haven’t had it often enough to get jaded by the meal choice, but can easily imagine that after 4 flights I’d be looking for something different.

Starter (duck salad) was meal of the night - could have easily had that in a main size. Ignore the excuse for what they call a side salad. Actually kept it aside to add to my mains and told the staff when they came to clear, not to take the “salad” - they probably thought “there’s another one untouched” as I saw a number of them being collected uneaten on trays ahead of me in the cabin.

Okay, visually really poor plating for the main (pork tacos), I’m sure you’ll agree (looks more like something my cat or dog would leave me to clean up). Surely the use of a ramekin or similar to hold the meat would be commonsense, plus stop the juices from soaking into the soft taco. Thankfully the taste was there and so enjoyed taking a break from work, but got sticky hands so had to head to the bathroom to clean up.

Had been hoping for another bottle of Voyager, but sadly missing on this sector.

Dessert with a Noble One Sticky. Yum, really finished off a cracker of a meal

Mon 17 June QF 656 ADL/BNE

Fantastic meal and Charles the FSD (whom I recognised) helped make it with his humor and attentiveness.

Got to snap both meals as I asked my seat mate if she’d mind if I took a photo of it (hers was the Niçoise salad). We also had te Voyager Girt by Sea loaded o this flight - damn it, I was driving when I landed in BNE. But I snuck in a cheeky 2 early on (along with my G&T).

What a flight...after changing seats from the pre-allocated 1D, I chose 3D 24 hours beforehand (as I hate Row 1). Ended up sitting next to a young girl and we struck up a conversation over PDB’s that didn’t finish until we parted at the BNE taxi rank. Turns out she a QF Supervisor FA, half my age and living in ADL whilst based out of BNE, so she was deadheading. Was off to HKG on QF96 Tues. She had also crewed for VA before changing to QF. She knew a number of the VA and QF crew and pilots I know, we spoke about our flying experiences non-stop. These moments come around too fleetingly.

The AUS-NZ menus seem to have finally changed over. This was earlier this week, SYD-AKL 7pm flight.

Sadly not much variety from previous iterations.

Amenity kit provided. No pre-meal drink service except on request (which lots of us did).

Crab to start.

Small serve. Reasonably tasty. But personally I didn’t think some elements worked (eg olives and mayonnaise).

Asked for a soup sample but ended up getting the whole small bowl. The laksa broth was tasty.

Then the pork fillet.

Great piece of meat. Nicely cooked. Very tasty. (Good job I liked it - have had it twice ex-SYD domestically since).

Skipped dessert in favour of a coffee. Was cheese or an ice cream stick.

Really mixed bag in terms of service. From the same three FAs and CSM experienced indifference, ditzy forgetfulness, officious language, then warmth and good humour and in the end pretty good service.

A new menu for me ex-AKL (to SYD, 15:45 flight).

Pre-meal drinks were offered by an FA but not via the trolley. Much quicker, albeit done from the back of the cabin.

Chicken salad was nice albeit a bit bland compared to its description.

Tandoori lamb was excellent and a massive serve.

Cheese and coffee to finish. With chocolates courtesy of the CSM who recalled my preference from an earlier flight.

A good flight.

CNS-SYD 13:40 flight (A330). Two hot options, the pepper steak (had before, quite nice) or a roast duck breast with red cabbage and creamy polenta.

Had the latter. CSM said 'good choice, the pepper steak is a bit watery today). She inadvertently started serving me the steak and indeed as she put it down on my tray it splashed a bit. She had to mop up a fair bit of watery gravy before serving me the duck.

Picture doesn't really do it justice. Was a wonderful meal. Huge breast, perfectly tender, very tasty. Perhaps could have done with an additional veg but I'm nit-picking. Highly recommended.

Service was quick. I did get a pre-meal drink (but from memory I think that's because I asked, it wasn't offered - pretty poor for a scheduled 2h55m flight).

Had I not been en route to the F lounge I'd have felt the absence of the Pantry offerings from VA a bit later in the flight.

QF445 SYD-MEL 'refreshment' - beef pie with mash. Sorry for the average photo. It was pretty good, I'd definitely order it again.

The other option was Neil's inspirational bowl of pea soup. That guy must churn out megalitres of the stuff.

HKG-BNE

I actual had the Beef Ragù, but forget to take a photo - it was very good. Luickly for completeness ( I’ve trained the family well) one of my kids took a photo of their dish for me - salad of duck with vermicelli :)

Lunch ... MEL-BNE ...

Blade Steak with mushroom sauce. Other option was curry Laksa on noodles (?!).

The tastless meat was at least tender.

Dinner BNE-MEL.

One option was Pork Sausage in onion sauce, I declined and went for the "Poached Chicken Salad".

20190630_175848.jpg

It was terrible, 100 gm of meat, 1oz of "salad" and the rest vermicelli.

The meat was dry with no flavour ... there was a "dressing" applied but it itself was tasteless.
