Qantas Business Class meals & menus

I rang Qantas today for my flights on Monday. The Australian agent said special diet meals are only available in business class. Not economy class. That could change as domestic flights increase, but he didn’t know when that might be. I wonder if I’ll be served the same gluten-free meal as on my last domestic flight in February? It is usually fish or chicken.

Update of the menu in J on PER-MEL flight today. The offerings were pork filet in cream sauce with cabbage and roast potatoes, or a cold choice: chick pea salad with cauliflower and vinaigrette. Fresh bread was also offered. I didn’t actually see any of the meals though. My GF meal was a beef “casserole“ with green beans, spinach and very nice brown rice. Most pieces of beef had fat or gristle attached, but otherwise were tender. There was a dessert of melon and pineapple wedges, and a crisp red apple. Wines accompanied meal service.

My gripe was the lack of an early drink service in J. Ten minutes after the seat belt sign went off, I went to the galley to ask for a bottle of water. The trolley for meal service came out 25 minutes later (35 minutes after seat belt off sign). There was no pre-take off beverage, even though we had to wait for a passenger to disembark and luggage removed from the hold. Or is a pre-take off beverage only for international? I seem to remember receiving a sparkling water on a 737. After the trays were cleared and tea coffee served, the FAs disappeared for the next hour and a quarter. They stayed in the galley and side seats eating lunch and chatting.

IIRC the pre departure beverages were ditched presumably because they spread Covid . I got none on flights BNE-SYD-BNE last week, but I recall the sparkling water too. It was much nicer than the Neil Perry yogurt and pulverised leaves drink that was all the rage a few years ago.
cheers skip

No pre-departure drinks nor water on my J flights last week. Food while on air do appear to be as good as it gets for Dom J.

QF458 MEL-SYD 1800: Beef stew with polenta, had Penfold’s red and garlic bread (offered a choice of breads). The alternative was a cheese plate.

QF1513 SYD-CBR 1835: Parma with sweet potato purée, garlic bread (no choice).

Where’s the serviette “tablecloth“ on the tray under the crockery? Must be a long haul embellishment, along with two glasses.

I got the same meal (beef stew) on the mid morning flight from Canberra to Brisbane on Monday. Can’t say I enjoyed it.

Third world airline economy class meal... Note to Qantas: just pulling it out of the foil packaging and putting it in a plastic bowl doesn't make it business class!

You should think yourself lucky,😆 BNE-CNS today, 11 in J, 9 hot meals loaded, 2 WP in 3D,F (and it's fine that they be prioritised).
Of course we in 3A,C were offered a cold quinoa salad. Yummy, ahh no thanks. 🤣 Water and juice please.

It begs the question, what is a J meal worth to Qantas. Not just the actual cost, but the cost of providing a service with an anticipated offer and then short catering pax to save a few bucks.
Especially when they are offering me up Gold on the status-match; what is the point if catering, priority boarding, forward toilets are still an issue.
After today, it allows me to rework my strategy of VA WP and QF gold.

"You were lucky. We lived for three months in a brown paper bag in
a septic tank. We used to have to get up at six o'clock in the
morning, clean the bag, eat a cold quinoa salad... " Apologies to Monty Python.

Christmas Eve ADL-CBR on the 4:15pm flight.
Sorry no photos but options were a cold quinoa salad or a quiche with a party pie.
Neither sounded appealing so we had a couple of packets of pretzels and a few beers. Staff were friendly and very attentive

The exact same choice was offered on BNE- ADL departing 14:30 on 23 December. The salad looked okay, but Mr R and I had eaten lunch in the lounge, so didn't try it. I had a nice glass of red wine from the Yarra Valley.

Luxury. We had to get up at 3AM every day, clean the quinoas one by one, serve the cold salad, then eat the bag... 🎒.
Soft.

In my day we had to do all that AFTER trudging 5 miles through snow covered fields of whatever the hell Kale comes from towing filled bar carts.. and that was before anyone anywhere ever heard of a freakin' Quinoa !

Qantas Lounge in Brisbane today - 2 options, Pie or soup. I went the pie ..
Brisbane - Canberra flight this afternoon I was blessed with another pie with an additional quiche.
They only had one beer option on the flight. James Squires Fifty Lashes.
Jeez I hope no one is paying cash for the business class flights.

Oh my goodness ! I’ll remember to take photos when I fly hone to Perth on Wednesday. Hopefully there will be more than a pie! My flight is a classic reward; no way would I pay for domestic business class.

SYD J lounge tonight, not much on offer food wise at all but only had about 20 minutes in there due to our inbound being half an hour late due to storms. SYD-ADL @ 1950, meal option was the cheese plate or the wagyu stew with polenta.
Went the hot meal option and thought it was a decent enough meal and certainly tasted better than it looked. A couple of bits of sourdough to mop up the gravy and a few glasses of Sauvignon Blanc. Pretty enjoyable flight and very well looked after by the crew
