The 'salad' and bakery was served about 20 minutes before the main. Given the 2100 departure (2300 at destination) Qantas skips the starter course which usually comes on this tray. A few lettuce leaves and a slice of bread doesn't feel substantial enough to serve on its own, why not serve it all with the main? Most pax just want to eat and go to sleep.

Mustard glazed pork with dill potatoes, onion cream and baby beans - was surprised to get a substantial, succulent bone-in cut. The beans were undercooked but otherwise this was a great main and I'd order it again.

Coconut pannacotta with pineapple, mango and calamansi - also an excellent dish, lots of citrus tang for a pannacotta but it worked. Feeling that SIN catering has a pretty big leg up on SYD/BNE international.

Neil's B&E roll. Bacon was warmed but egg was cold.

Wines served were the same Haselgrove Switch GSM 2017 & Voyager Chardonnay as my flight to SIN, plus a Vickery Riesling.

Side note for anyone on an ex-SIN QF flight - use the EK lounge! I started off at the QF lounge which filled up fairly quickly. so after taking a shower I went for a walk to the Plaza Premium lounge just to see what that was like, but noticed the EK lounge directly next to it. Staff were across the Qantas entry entitlement and very welcoming. I had the entire lounge to myself for just over an hour, staff were proactively topping up the Moet and offering several Singaporean dishes for a la carte dining. Stunning views of the runway and apron too. The lounge opens at 5pm which aligns perfectly with the 8:30/8:45/9:00pm departures to BNE/MEL/SYD.

Lack of entree is really disappointing. Make it optional if people want to skip straight to the main.

Re the EK lounge. I'm actually quite a big fan of the rotating local dishes on offer in the QF SIN J lounge. Would you say the EK food offering is better?

QF 683 MEL ADL Easter Sunday 17/4 12.50pm departure. J choice was a croque monsieur toasted sandwich or a salad. Served with sourdough and a Lindt ball.

Y got tiny packets of a little square of cheese and 2 or 3 crackers.

Everyone on board got a Lindt Easter chicken

IMO QF F is not about the catering, which is basically Business+ (a little tiny bit). It's all about the bedding and the suite imo.

SQ catering blows QF away every single time. there's just no contest.. and of course the beds (specially suites) are something else... but I digress :)

at least there WAS catering :D

It has often been said that BA and QF F are very good…. business class products!

Pre covid QF F had canapés, but the menus have always had a lot in common between the two cabins. On one flight the menus were almost identical with the exception of the ‘artisan cheese’ in business class compared to the ‘hand selected artisan cheese’ in first!

We always pick the EK lounge over QF everywhere but SYD or MEL F lounges. Dramatically better food and wines.

I hadn't considered it because the last two times I was in Singapore the QF F lounge had been open, which probably trumps the EK lounge (on everything but view). But who knows when the F lounge will reopen, I did go to see if there was any signage on the door but nada. I guess they are waiting for A380s on the Kangaroo route via SIN. (mid June I believe)

Having used both in SIN pre COVID, no.

IMHO, the SIN EK buffet generally had better food and beverage than the SIN Qantas First Cafeteria, even with the latter having table service.

QF651 tonight from SYD to PER. No menus. Non-vegeterian options were the beef (pictured) or a butter chicken. Spirits are back and I was able to get a Ginger Beer.

Funny story - I was at the back of the main business cabin thinking there were toilets there (too used to the A330-300 layout), but there weren't. FA tried sending me to the Economy toilets before I mentioned I'm in 4K.

edit: Just asked for a pillow, was told no pillows because "covid"... then how did I get a pillow on my QFi flight? Makes the lie flat seat of questionable usefulness for a 6:20pm departure flight if there's no pillow... Has anyone been on one of the transcon redeyes? Are there pillows and mattress covers then?

Live from QF843 - SDT:0150
Flight time : 4:10 DRW-SYD
Qantas club was closed so we were given a $20 voucher to use at the one open cafe. Boarding was a disorganised mess. No signage and everyone welcomed at the same time. Mini bottles of water were handed out before take off to J. We took of late at about 0210. The meal then started at about 0250 and for some reason we were served dinner. I would have thought it would have made more sense to serve breakfast before landing but oh well. 3 choices. Prosciutto salad, chicken in mushroom sauce with mash and vegetables or beef in black pepper sauce with mushrooms and rice. I went for the beef and it came with a lamington, seeded bread and a Lindt chocolate. Asked if spirits were available and the CSM said yes and commented how good it was to have them back. The meal was pretty good, beans were soggy but otherwise not bad.

I would actually have preferred the dinner over the breakfast. That way I can try get some sleep all the way to seat belts on for landing. If it were the other way round, they would have to wake the cabin earlier with meal prep then service then cleanup

Not technically a transcontinental but there were no pillows or blankets on QF843 leaving 0150 for a 0630 arrival. Quite a few passengers asked as the cabin was absolutely freezing. Crew very apologetic.

QF101 SYD-NAN, 4 hour flight.

Bubbles or green juice offered shortly after take-off.

No printed menu, 3 Breakfast choices on offer; Leek Quiche or Bacon, mushroom & potato omelette or muesli.

I had the omelette, it came with a blueberry muffin, grain soughdough with frozen pepe sayer butter you couldn't spread, strawberry jam, fruit salad and a mango yoghurt.

Coffee/Tea service.

30 mins before landing were offered rice crackers or pretzels or mini cookies.

Oh wow- this is soooo inferior to what Fiji Airways served us on the same route last week. And even actually quite okay looking for Qantas' sad standards!

Will post a proper trip report on our Fiji Airways experience to the US once de-jetlagged but they easily blow Qantas J out of the water- food wise but also service- and seat-wise, at least on the A350.

Re SIN.

Another option, depending on opening times, is QR. I visited it shortly after opening and it was really nice. I absolutely agree EK is great and beats QF J lounge in SIN (but not F). That early hour or so when it is not very full is a good time to visit indeed.

I don't believe it's reopened yet otherwise I would have stuck my head in (given its right next to EK)

I'm assuming QR treats it like their Doha lounges and won't admit OWS/OWE travelling Y?
