Qantas Business Class meals & menus

There is no more pre departure drinks or hot towels on domestic except for flights over 4 hours they told me on my J Sydney to Melbourne on sunday ....

Dear Qantas. AirNZ Last weekend. Business Cabin. PDB juice, water or champagne. Also Hot Towel pre take off. Posted for comparison only.

Food wise, Air New Zealand has been trumping Qantas for years now on the trans-Tasman, mainly because they essentially treat it like any other “international” flight.

However- I HATE the stupid neck cranking “wrong way around” seats on Air NZ and the wines are also dirt cheap for the most. Cheap supermarket brands that tig can get at any local Countdown for a tener or less. But yes- the food is excellent, good choice, great quality and a “proper” meal with starter, main, nicely presented desert AND cheese. Plus one of the best garlic breads in the sky 😋

Is it just me, or is it weird to have…

Breakfast as the final meal on an evening North American arrival? (QF75 SYD-YVR dep 20h arr 17h30)

…or

Breakfast as the final meal on a Evening Australia arrival (QF18 LAX-SYD dep 9h30 arr 17h30)

Can understand the service and catering simplicity, but found this odd

I think the LST outbound catering should have been loaded in SYD or MEL on the inbound. So they ( QF Operations or whoever ‘organises’ the catering) would have known there was no catering for you. But did they inform anyone? By the sound of it, no - have a glass of water.
Correct, this route should've been double-catered but the outbound from SYD was already running late and the captain made the decision to not have catering for the return loaded so as not to delay the flight further (there was however catering on SYD-LST). Apparently this was made known to passengers at check-in at LST and meal vouchers offered - but of course, this assumes you still check in the traditional way at the check-in counter. I had checked in on the app and had carry-on baggage only so went straight through security to the gate. Only found out about this onboard.

Well at least they made some effort. But a PA -is there a QP at LST- would have killed them? Then that’s the app thing. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if they could send people messages over the app! Naaaaa.

Flying Qantas F on QF1 a week on Monday.

Expectations aren't high for food and drink but is it still set mealtimes in F? Or can I get dishes at any time?

Maybe I've been spoiled by QR J and other F flights eg Emirates before, but I was hoping I could dine anytime on such a long flight...

Breakfast on QF643 SYD-PER tasted even more disappointing than it looked.

Hot towel??? BNE-PER is over 4 hours, but I’ve never seen a hot towel. Ditto a pre departure beverage. *Never! I have only received a PDB sparkling wine on QF international flights.

* In recent 4 years.

I posted in the VA thread after my recent flight PER-KNX in J. First time flying J on VA. Absolutely the best domestic J experience in many years. Pre departure sparkling, delicious lunch (quinoa and pumpkin salad), good red wine, and topped up. PLUS the silk rope to keep the riff raff out. 😂 The CSM was excellent. Nor did she disappear for the rest of the flight after removing trays.

Be great if you could do a trip report on this - first QF1 F report in over two years!

Realistically I think they should probably drop the carbs off the main plate when designing the meals
A good idea. For meat-eaters, the main "portion" of their meal would be a serve of meat and for vegos, a large serve of veggies roasted, perhaps. Followed by a

That menu looks amazing, exquisite in comparison to what QF offer in J trans-tasman. Whew! I'm feeling happy just looking at the menu :P

OOL-CBR 3pm this arvo

Bottled water offered pre departure. Mains were Chicken in a cream sauce (had it before, seems to be high rotation) or a barramundi fish. I had the chicken, was delicious. Traveling companion had the fish - apparently awful. Cabin manager took a little while to read the room re drink refills etc but was fantastic towards the end.

Lounge at Gold Coast is claustrophobic without windows but I did appreciate the food options - delicious garlic pizza and Anzac cookies, pre made tosties and fruit amongst other things - much better than the sad offerings at other lounges such as Sydney business.

Not a bad flight.
