Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Utterly, utterly disgraceful. And they charge a premium for this.

How can they not load enough meals? At the gate upgrades are "not assured of catering" - fair enough. Did crew make a mistake and serve those pax , I wonder?

FWIW, I'm SG and was on a commercial fare. The cabin was half empty at T-24, so I suspect there's been a few last minute upgrades clear which resulted in a packed cabin.

I can understand the odd occasion of not getting first preference, but there was nothing else on offer here. The flight was also delayed an hour due to late inbound crew, which shouldn't have had any impact on catering.

BNE-SYD, Monday 6th June, dinner flight on 737:

The Brissy Domestic Business lounge used to be one of my favourites, alongside the one in Perth. But unfortunately, all the glory is gone- that once super nice additional food area which used to offer TexMex-style options first had turned into "Just the usual slob" a few months back already and now sits deserted in the corner. Not sure if that's because off staff shortages or to save a buck, probably both. The rest of the food choices were the usual Qantas lounge stuff (watery pasta Bolognese, a soup, some sandwich toppings). We also noted a sever decline in maintenance and cleaning, tables were overflowing with used dishes etc. and the toilets are fast approaching Sydney lounge levels (i.e. haven't been mopped/ cleaned in days it seems).

Flight itself was once again delayed by about an hour but Sydney seemed to still suffer from its westerly winds which had an effect on the incoming aircraft. As always with Qantas Domestic, absolute shambolic boarding process (perfectly fine two lanes but staff ignored this entirely and everyone was boarding through the "priority" lane while the eco lane was empty- premium pax realised this and then went up the economy lane, just completely insane as per usual) and no pre departure drinks. Is it really that hard to shove at least some water down the aisle?

After takeoff, the usual professional but rather uninspired service on this particular flight. Crew seemed to be in a real rush and showed it which wasn't exactly very welcoming. Food options were the good old chicken in cream sauce that we've seen dozens of pictures of already so I didn't bother. Other option was the salad which now came with piles of streamed (but cold) broccoli. Broccoli is usually one of the few green veggies that I don't mind but cold? Baaah- I went for the chicken which was good as ever. Red was a nice Cabernet Sauvignon which I quite enjoyed and the usual Lindt bar came on the side. One quick top up and then the crew could not wait a second to collect all the glasses etc. from you, way before the seatbelt sign was back on again. Time to enjoy some leftover salads and a chit chat themselves I guess  Gone are the days when Qantas waited until the very last minute to collect your glasses or, better even, poured your leftover wine into a plastic cup for landing.

On the topic of quantum of catering I think they've actually been quite good recently. I do J weekly and they actually served a staff member in 1C after me which is very rare as CSM said they have enough of either option. The staff member openly said please serve me last btw. I think its just luck of draw. Usually some don't even take food so I think the OP was unlucky

Also re wine just have to ask. If you don't get a PDB but need a water just ask. They who do not ask do not receive...

In an ideal world staff would recognise but there's always lots going on. I'm 50/50 on coat hanging but when meal comes and it's on your lap they hang. Sometimes you just have to be proactive and ask yourself.

We left around an hour late due to late arrival of the aircraft. Looking through the history of the flight it seems this flight is almost always late so no surprise there. The Cairns QANTAS pub is okay, think it might have just been the barista as the coffee was awful. Priority boarding actually worked okay, wasn’t policed but people actually seemed to use the correct lanes (I know this is a food thread but whoever designed Sydney T3 gates to have the priority lane on the right, next to the seating area should be shot).

On board no pre departure drink was offered but my jacket was hung. After take off we did get a drink but strangely no nuts and pretzels. I suspect something must have gone wrong with the catering as the CSM looked very confused as he started the meal service. 2 choices today, surprise surprise the grain salad or a kale tart 🤮. I chose the tart regardless which came with chutney and a meat pie?

Plus the usual sourdough and a Lindt chocolate. Oh for the days when even MEL-SYD got a proper desert. The crew were nice but didn’t have much to do with the passengers after the meal service. We did get offered a pack of the economy snacks which I think was carrot sticks and dip about an hour before landing.

the catering on the long way up to Cairns has been woefully inadequate for a long time already. The above is just sad for a few hour long flight.

Chicken or beef were the options, no PDB served. 3 hour scheduled service. No pre-meal drinks served. (No additional/alternate options to eat offered beyond what was supplied on the tray, small chocolate ball out of shot.)

Yes - that whole main meal is around the same size as a slice of bread!

I thought you said the options were chicken or beef? Whatever that is between the mash and veg doesn't look like either to me.

No PDB. Beef, chicken or salad
Was tasty enough but portion size for the transcontinental is pretty poor!
Service was reasonably attentive.

QF445 10 June; Departure 1325 (late). Miserable offerings in the Sydney J lounge and the best I could find was penne bog. It wasn’t bad but Nona won’t loose sleep over it. On board, 3A woes- only 1 salad left or the chicken sandwich. Lucky my offsider went the sanga so I got the salad. 2 pieces of sourdough as compensation.
The salad wasn’t bad, quite tasty and the Cab Sav was a good drink. Crew were efficient, they expected I would finish same time as row 1 so I had them hovering whilst I ate.
Not great food, offered a wine refill but we had already started descending so I declined

While a nice "hearty" meal it's pretty poor effort.

At least they could get rid of those Lindt balls and attempt a proper dessert or cheese plate for the PER - East coast flights

I too visited lovely CNS during the past week and had a mixed bag as usual.

QF922 SYD-CNS. Mid-morning departure and it was a refreshment flight, which was a bit disappointing. I was hoping for a lunch service or something a bit more for a 3h flight.. but here you are. Anyway the meal was some sort of salad(Kale?) and the glorified ham/chese/tomato toastie, in this case Pancetta and cheese in toasted turkish bread (with a side of bread). Yeah, not even the tomato ! LOL

Crew did come around later in the flight to offer the salty snack mix. Gone are the days of the ice cream pre-arrival it seems. boom, hiss.

On the return instead of going on the 923 to SYD and then onto MEL I was moved to 703 CNS-MEL (only about 30min late iirc). Unlike SJF211, it seems I got a slightly better option. While there was no pre meal drink service, but food options were some sort of chicken dish iirc, and "Stir Fried Beef, vegetables and Jasmine rice" - it was very tasty and filling to be honest. While I had the bubbles there was also a sauv blanc and I believe the red was a cab sav.

Great service and the food was decent.. and I got home over 2 hours earlier than I would have.
