Qantas Business Class meals & menus

That’s the same pre-departure drink they had on MEL-ADL recently. I was seated in row 4, so I could observe what they got in J. The FA had to go back to get a second tray of the drinks.

Oops, I wrote Y instead of J.
I was in J (seat 1f) but isn't that hilarious... I must have been thinking subliminally as I wrote it (taxying) that I must be in Y!

QF25 SYD-HND

Appetisers excellent, beef was standard Qantas doneness (leather), miso soup missing dashi, dessert excellent.

Overall good to see Qantas making an attempt to localise the menu on the route, but some areas for improvement.

QF2 J, 12/9 SIN-SYD, gluten-free (GFML) dinner. Salad leaves, beef stew with overcooked veggies, barely edible breadroll, and lychee/lime jelly. For someone who doesn't usually eat beef this was a bit to take in. But luckily an extra and very tasty dessert saved the day. Shiraz was OK.

I was hoping for better because I couldn't eat either of the SIN J lounge hot food options (laksa, pasta) but overall the food was rather underwhelming. It was only an inch above what I've received at the back of the plane, just presented in a lot nicer way (in fact, some of the pre-pandemic domestic Y hot meals were much tastier and more fulfilling).

No idea of the breakfast as I slept through the service. But if it was along the same lines, no need to kick myself for the loss... 😐

After collecting the tray, a host came around to check if I'd like another dessert. From the normal menu, the mango coconut pannacotta was really enjoyable. Smooth and tasty.

Upthread another coeliac wrote that he no longer orders GF meals on international flights. I am strongly considering doing the same! So many meals on the inflight menu appear to be GF anyway. And I don’t need bread! I am over the lacklustre QF gluten free J meals that are barely Y quality!

If it makes you feel any better, the same can be said for the regular J meals. That is underwhelming and barely any better than Y, just better presentation and slower to be served.

For comparison, now that I compared my meal to Y meals. This was the Y dinner on QF35 (MEL-SIN) a few days earlier. Stock standard, very edible but not memorable and - as often is - the dessert was the best part of it.

That definitely looks like one of my usual J meals on domestic flights. (Note the cold bread roll, inedible unless warmed up. When I ask for it to be warmed, it is taken away but never returned!)

QF987 MKY-BNE
12:30 departure

Lamb shank with potato puree and peas (other option was the chicken dish posted below)

15:10 departure

Grain salad with prosciutto, corn, spinach, pickled ginger and some sort of vinaigrette. Was fresh and tasty. The other option was a Cornish pasty with sweet potato and a Beerenberg relish, from memory.

18:35 departure

This was the first QF J domestic flight in ages where I’ve been offered a pre-departure still water, sparkling water or sparkling wine, which I gratefully accepted. I almost thought I was on VA for a moment!

One hot meal option - the chicken with a creamy parmesan cheese sauce and veges that has been on high rotation lately. Was quite good. I asked what white & red wines the FA had on the trolley and was offered a glass of each so I wouldn’t have to choose just one. 😂

The service on all 3 flights was sensational. It was quite refreshing to have a good experience on Qantas.
