Qantas Business Class meals & menus

QF887 ADL to PER

Sheppard's pie. Pretty tasty actually but oh wait, this is in whY! Honestly the difference between J and Y meals is minimal. Similar presentation. Plastic plate thingy instead. I guess that bit of bread is what you're paying for in J.

I suppose the J cart also has flashing lights which the Y one didn't

Looks more like an electrical hazard!

I know that this thread is about the food on the plane and I’ll add to this discussion again shortly. BUT, given we all like to whinge about Qantas, myself included, I just had to post about this:

I’m currently in the Perth Business lounge and the whole place started smelling like freshly baked pizza a few minutes ago. I’m used to the glibbery glib food at the Sydney Domesric lounge (if you can call that slob “food) or the arguably better but usually bland Asian fare in Melbourne so this is a revelation to me.

Qantas- please please please, can we get this in Sydney? Ideally everywhere? I promise I will fly even more often for this pizza feast. It not only looks and smells good, it also tastes excellent. Lots of gooey cheese, nice crust on the base and even condiments like chilli oil to spice it up. I’m in pizza heaven :p
Last August was at the lounge....they said they ran out of the daily specials....if we get half of what you've said!

That's not Kung Pao Chicken🤣
This is Kung Pao chicken
- actually served at one of the restaurants of a QF you know who celebrity chef

The main point is that the chill peppers are about half of the ingredients on the dish🤣
And the chicken is cubed

Yea- I had thought that this isn’t the Kung Pao I remember…

But the sauce was still spicy so for being Qantas, a good enough approximation of the real thing that features chillies. I’d say. Maybe I’m too generous here but it was a tasty dish.

I'll concede the cashews as thats part of Kung Pao and there is chicken but other than that...
Agreed. But at least it was quite tasty, not too bad a cut of chicken meat and the sauce even had some taste to it. Admittedly, my bar is pretty low :D

QF1907 6 JAN 23

Dear oh dear Qantas, this flight was one of my worst experiences.

The crew were absent; CSM spilled wine over another passenger; service was substandard; requests were ignored or not understood; the meal was bland; service was not operated at the expected standard. Checked bags were thrown onto the loading belt - you would have thought the lesson had been learned. There were security breaches which I will take up with QF privately.

However, sticking to the meal, Manus Island must have tastier food. There was a condiment loaded; however, it was not offered - why load it if you don't intend to serve it? At least offer it.

The only redemption was the wine - but that doesn't get this out of fail territory (with me)

Dissecting the kung pao chicken to the nth degree was not my intention. Of course t's not absolutely authentic - you'd never have a domestic business dish on QF or any airline with so many chillis. Even accounting for lowered expectations, I thought it was tasty. That's all that matters to me.

Of course👍. It's a dish that requires a lot of chilli and yes, really not one for the airline cabins. The interesting thing is that called it that. 👍
..
I've always wondered how chilli tastes at 30,000 feet.
I do agree that QF is terrible at over-selling or stating what something is.

I grew up eating very spicy food, so no idea whether it is me or the altitude that makes me want more chilli on pretty much everything I eat!!

me want more chilli
Not sure of apocryphal, but it's said that the taste buds dont work very well at 30,000 feet. So airline food flavours need to be enhanced (there's that word again 🤣)

BTW the "real" KPC photo is from Spice Temple (Sydney - basement under Rockpool) - run by the QF celebrity chef..

Or sweet and sour chicken as it was sold to me ;)

@Sprucegoose , that's simply awful. Were the 'mushy' peas as dry as they look?

Any ideas on what it most closely resembles?
Nothing I am familiar with. But what I was saying was that it could be described as sweet and sour chicken, given it was served up by Qantas.
