Qantas Business Class meals & menus

I'm not sure if Neil Perry has been responsible for some of awful meals on offer in business eg plant based dining choices , over spiced sauces and of course tasteless green leaf only salads .
Granted, but when he lends his name (no Doubt for a healthy fee) to the Qantas menus past and present, he can take the odium for when they are a crock.

MEL SYD early afternoon flight on a 737

First time being offered 3 choices! Sweet corn soup, the Ploughmans plate or a Shepard's pie. I was torn between the ploughman's plate and the pie but chose the latter as I was feeling a bit more peckish. Pie was decent, but the peas seemed like a warm paste and left a bit to be desired. Will definitely give the cheese a shot next time!

No Koko Black this time but I'm never going to say no to Lindt! Crew were decent, offered tea or coffee post meal.

I must say, although I didn't have the bread this time round, happy with the change back to decent butter!

Maybe it was just cost saving on QFs part and Neil got the blame.
Whatever , if QF is prepared to spend more on dining , that's great ,and please Neil , keep out of the kitchen !
I'm sure if NP didn't want his name associated with this cr@p then he would have made it know loud and clear

I don't usually defend Qantas, but PDB service while a 737 is boarding is always painful to watch and will occasionally impact on-time performance. It would be more exacerbated on a QF 737 due to the bigger J cabin compared with VA. Not quite apples with apples.
FWIW, I watched them do this on a VA flight yesterday. Functional priority boarding helps, most J pax were seated early. Then twice during boarding, Y pax were held at the door for no more than 30 seconds while the CSM did a quick drinks run. It didn’t slow boarding because the aisle was full of people faffing with bags back in Y anyway. Those boarding waited at the door instead of at row 3 in a congested aisle.

Agreed, it’s not hard if you apply some critical thinking.
Aisle backed up - okay i’ll hold pax at the door and serve.
Aisle free flowing - let people file past.

So hard.

19:30 MEL-HBA 717 flight. Two options were the Shepherds pie or cheese and terrine plate. Having eaten my bodyweight in cheese over the past week, I went with the pie.

The FA was very apologetic for how the pie looked. She also strongly encouraged the addition of relish. Glad she did because the pie was tasteless.

Pax across the aisle eventually got their cheese plates. Cheese and terrine looked good, but the crackers looked cheap and I couldn't easily see what the other accompaniments were (perhaps nuts).

Slow service because the Y trolley blocked the galley for a few minutes while that food was warmed. Then the pilots were fed. Given those delays the FA did a pretty good job serving a near full cabin - my shadow held, which was nice.

I presume QF Link doesn't do soups?

I was also going to make the observation that good Priority Boarding means that most J pax are seated early, so pre departure bevvies can be offered while others are standing in the aisles waiting to be seated.

Heading to Tasmania, I dare say it will be pie on the return trip too :)

As I got a few requests, here are a few pictures of the QF67 (SYD - BLR) menu. Fair to say it was delicious and definitely better quality-wise compared to other Intl J menus. The Neil salad looked sad though 😂

They made a big mistake with the latest plate design, specifically the size rather than the design. Supposedly weight saving, it appears more like they were designed to get people habituated to smaller portion sizes. Now, with the more generous servings they are purporting to offer it all looks a bit sad and piled up!

How often does QF change it's menu on international flights? I mean does it change randomly each flight? Or do they have the same menu for a week / month / other period. I'm travelling on QF9 in around 4 weeks and I'm trying to decide if we should eat more in the lounge.

Laksa in the dom MEL J lounge this arvo. Very tasty but a bit heavy on the laksa leaf sprinkled on top.

And vegan too, which is a nice change from the lack of vego/vegan hot options. (Quite often the “vego” curry has shrimp paste in it😡.)

QF71 PER-SIN today. The green pea and mint soup was really delicious. The steak was well done, but still very tender. Obviously overcooked in preparation with not enough rareness left to reheat. Champagne was offered pre-departure. Heirloom Shiraz very good.

That menu looks identical to the DFW-SYD J menu I had in Feb. Come on QF...time for some variety!

QF62 HND-BNE yesterday they had a roast pumpkin soup which was actually pretty decent. The serving size was bigger than I expected too.

It isn't ideal that the blocks of butter are stone-cold when they serve them though. One has to find creative ways to warm them up enough so that they can spread properly.

Side note, does anyone else find Qantas cutlery to be underwhelming?

BNE-PER on A330 yesterday in J

Lunch was an absolute disgrace. Was a a haloumi and pumpkin starter salad in a small bowl.

3 Choices as the 'Main' Veg Soup, Lamb Salad, Chicken Thigh in Creamy Sauce with Beans.

I went the salad and it was an absolute joke (the economy chicken salad is bigger and better) 2 slices of fatty grizzly lamb, a couple cherry tomato's cut up, couple bits of cucumber and 4 spinach leaves. Then 2 small potato's that were close to being raw with a pesto sauce.

Horrible - FA asked how it was and I gave my feedback but got told new options coming soon.

Thankfully only an ODU, if you paid 2-3k for this you'd be mega annoyed.

1.5hr flight in VA J the other day gave me a better meal and options - WTF is Qantas playing at.
