Qantas Business Class meals & menus

QF1917 DRW to BNE on Sunday.

Had the last choice between ginger chicken noodle or steak with mash. Semi jealous of my neighbour who got allocated the steak...seemed to be the much better meal.

QF673 MEL-ADL 08/03/2023

Choice was between a leek frittata or a fruit salad with yogurt, chose former. The danish was nice, though personally the frittata was bit heavy for me that morning. Had 3 spoonfuls of the yogurt and that was it.

I noticed they gave the Koko Black choc bars with every meal. I pocketed them and they made for good pick-me-ups in the afternoon.

MEL SYD on a morning flight.

First time seeing this offered, a mixed greens bowl with edamame, pumpkin, nuts and more. Must say this was a treat, better than the usual frittata! Super attentive and friendly crew.

Each to their own, but this disgusting looking medley of the worst possible vegetables (pumpkin! kale! ) 🤢 could appear in my worst nightmares. Even a plain croissant would be preferred, especially for breakfast. Bah, bah, bah.

SYD-BNE, dinner time flight on 737:

Staff likes to constantly make what I call “dad jokes” which was funny initially but got stale very quickly. Catering was a bit odd on this flight unless that’s the new normal- more akin to a Trans-Tasman service or flights to Perth in having not two but three food options, no Lindt or chocolate insight but instead a “proper” mini cake, like the ones you usually get on longer routes. It was also the first time on Domestic that they’ve offered the lovely Pepe Saya butter, also something they I’m more used to on International J but more than happy for them to keep on Domestic as well.

Food choices were a non descript chicken with sweet potato mash, the cold salad with slices of fatty lamb on top or, believe it or not, a soup. This was the first in aims time that I’ve seen soups re-appearing on Qantas Domestic (they used to have a killer Laksa which I loved, just before Covid hit- please bring that back!) so I went for that one. I had bad experiences with chicken off cuts on Qantas recently and that fatty cold lamb just looks disgusting so a “Pea and ham” soup sounded appealing. It turned out to rather be “Pea and mint” which was far less speaking but still yummie enough to be enjoyable.

Plenty people had “the lamb” hoping for a nice hot lamb dish and were utterly disappointed when they saw the sad looking salad with a the rather off-putting slices of cold fatty lamb on top. So I was glad I made the right choice. Wine was an excellent Blasdale Pinot Grigio or some Shiraz which I’ve forgotten the brand, nothing special from memory. All in all an okay flight, nothing too out the ordinary apart from the slightly unusual catering.

I think this the roll-out of the 3 options in J which @milehighclub posted about a few days' back. I got this exact same menu the other night SYD-MEL. Will post about that later.

Yes, that's right. I got the same improved offerings on a recent return trip on the triangle route. One during dinner time, with 3 options including a soup, a salad and a hot meal. And outside of dinner, 3 options with a soup, a sandwich and a salad.

Overall I was fairly impressed.
  • The soup was very tasty, and a different offering on both flights. Minted pea on one, sweet corn on the other.
  • I liked that a proper desert was back, although chocolate bars are still provided outside of meal times.
  • Also liking that Pepe Saya butter that is provided now, which used to be an international only thing. I'm a big fan of cultured butter though.

Some changes coming across the network. They are over the next month or so. Some changes include:
- Introduction of a full 2nd meal service on longer flights (such as BKK/HKG/HND) in economy, with business to follow
- Introduction of full breakfast in economy on longer flights back into Australia (also from BKK/HND/HKG) and more hot choices in Business
- Premium ingredients being added across starters and mains
- In premium, cheese and biscuits increased to a larger serve, almonds during bar (same as J), ice creams on lunch/dinner flights and... no more side salad! This will now be an antipasto bowl.
- In economy there is a general increase in the portion sizes
- Domestic will see PDB on east/west (and all other long sectors)
- On domestic, 3 choices of meals throughout the day, one hot, one cold dish with a hot item and one soup (muesli for breakfast). Where a flight is double catered, the offering may be 2 choices (2 hots or 1 hot and 1 cold dish)
- In business, trays will have additional items on the tray appropriate to time of day
- In economy, some flights will have the bar available from 0900 instead of 1200 and the food offering improved to a hot item.

Indeed there has been an update on the menu front! Doing my first golden triangle for the week a little earlier.

Flying outside meal times on SYD-MEL:
- Pea and mint soup
- Ploughmans plate (very BA with cheese gherkins etc
- chicken and cheese toastie

I enjoyed the soup on a snack time flight

As a side note, noticed some better wines too in the QF dom J. Enjoyed the Peter Lehmann 2015 Semillon on a hot afternoon. The sav blanc onboard on the other hand not so great so had to switch to G&T (sometimes feel a bit guilty asking for spirits which slows up service on the first round).

Another great crew who were very friendly, knew the new menu well and were efficient. Plenty of time for multiple topups and handed out extra Lindt choccies which are my weekend desserts.

Really happy with those changes, love the Pepe Saya butter (and at around $10 in the supermarket a treat that we only afford at very special occasions) and an additional soup course is very much appreciated- glad to see that this is an option outside of main meal times even!

Not a sweet tooth so don’t really care about the desert unless they were to throw in a plate with some cheese and crackers in there. But that’ll remain a dream on QF I fear. Anyway, all in all a change to the better which has been unheard of in quite some times so no complaints from me.

CNS-SYD 12:30 A330 flight.

No PDB or pre-meal drink, but a kind member of the crew got me a regular-size bottle of water and cup before takeoff. Two meal options - beef brisket with sweet potato mash and veg, or the smoked pork pasta. I had the beef.

Overall a good dish. Beef tender and reasonably tasty. Beans fresh. But I really liked the contrast of textures and flavours of the peppercorns and the sweet potato puree. A good combo.

Decent service, although would have been a long wait for those in the rear J seats. Fortunately for us up front the other FAs came forward and were constantly through the J cabin offering wines, waters, teas and coffees etc. Darren in particular looked after me with post-meal drinks of choice.

A good but uneventful flight. Until we crossed the threshold of 16L and the pilots initiated a go-around. So low that some trackers I've looked at registered us at 50 feet or 0 feet altitude (and landed). Have had several go-arounds in the US and Asia, but the first I recall in Oz for many years. But all safely done, with bonus tour of the harbour for us on the port side. Sadly the delay meant my checked-in bag did not make the onward connections with me.

What they mean by this is you can order off the mid-flight menu any time you want. So basically nothing different to what's always been the case.
I'd have thought that too?
@exLXCXFF is not referring to the "mid flight" menu. "Page 2" is not showing, but I presume they are referring to having your main meal courses at a time suitable to you. Similar to this:

Try doing it in practice ... you will generally find yourself being politely discouaged from doing so.
QF67 - SYD to BLR this morning, noting that page 2 says you can have your food whenever you want ...
