Qantas Business Class meals & menus

I slept from wheels up to 30mins to landing. The breakfast trolley was coming by when I woke and managed to grab a coffee and some kind of Indonesian breakfast pastry, a sort of deep fried empanda with a spring roll filling. A good snack to get me as far as the lounge and connecting flight to Melbourne.

Well what a uninspiring menu offer in biz between MEL and CNS this morning. Ham and cheese croissant or a few bits of fruit (not both offered)
Unpoliced loo visits from many beyond row 4 and frankly it was a constant flow. Compared to my previous Virgin offerings (also on this route) it certainly inspires me to stick to Virgin however the QF lounge did have bacon!! This seems to be enhanced away from VA!!

noticed this last year on the late morning SYD-CNS (A330 so no loo interlopers) in J. the food offering was basically pretty much the same iirc I think QF treats CNS as a leisure destination and I have a feeling this influences what is offered to a degree. Having said that, On that same trip, flew CNS-MEL on the QF703 which is an afternoon flight and the meal offering was really substantial (as one would expect) and had no complaints.

SYD-CNS used to be a low point in catering in pre-Covid times already. And agreed, it was usually much better on the return.

QF742 ADE-SYD 30/05.
Choices were pea soup, ploughmans plate or chicken toastie.
Took the toastie.
Nice Shiraz on offer.
Friendly CSM but no recognition of status.

Catching up on some recent flights:

MEL-AKL 23:35 flight, 737. Horror flight time-wise, and not much better (Aussie) crew or food. Toastie or soup, no breakfast offering. Definite decline from pre-COVID. Took this one as a consequence of preferring a daytime EK flight from SIN rather than an overnight QF one, so my choice.

AKL-SYD 12:20 flight, 737. PDBs offered upon boarding. No pre-meal service but I requested and received a juice. Quicker service than previous trans-Tasman flights. Lunch all on one tray again. Veg tortellini in a cheese bake; chicken quinoa salad the other option (which also happened to be the Economy meal...).

Pasta was reasonably tasty and well prepared. But after maybe four mouthfuls it became boring and a chore to eat. Really needed something else to break up the blandness. (Personally I'd swap half the pasta for a couple of sausages).

Nice fresh salad with plenty of cheese and olives, just one slice of salmon. Cookies and water offered before descent. Good (NZ) crew.

SYD-ADL 17:15 flight, 737. Flights all blurring so can't remember all options. Assume it was soup and salad, or the pork steak.

Pork was tender and tasty. Mash and veg also good. Not the biggest serve but still very enjoyable.

Outstanding crew. Wish I could remember the CSM's name. He greeted pax in multiple languages depending on what he thought the surname implied. Got me totally wrong, but all good. Excellent service throughout the flight.

this was the abomination served on QF9 mel - per this week. earlier in the month I had the plant based option which was a pasta which was much more edible

the smoked salmon tasted off, the eggs were so hard boiled I expected them to knock someone out, the cucumber was noodle-fied which made it a bit messy. I guess the pickled beetroot (yes the yellow stuff is beetroot) was a good palate cleanser?

That is disappointing, my QF9 MEL-PER a few weeks ago gave me a glimmer of hope that the QF J soft product was returning to its pre covid levels of acceptability. Obviously QF service is as consistently inconsistent as ever...

I love it and with my food allergies that is sometimes the only thing I can eat
On a recent flight Sydney to bkk they served sourdough bread in business. It was the best ever had.And I come from a country with over 200 types ofbread. Good on you,Qantas..

ADL - BNE 11:10 flight; E190.

Two options for "breakfast": Tomato quiche, or chicken sandwich in Turkish bread (presumably toasted).

IMG_4517.jpg

Quiche was pretty good. Had a nice, cold tomato and vegetable accompaniment on the side. Provided some flavour.

Juice provided upon request pre-meal. One wine top up offered then the attendant disappeared down back until well into descent. But an OK flight.

AKL-SYD 12.25pm 737

Full cabin in J. PDB offered. Champagne, orange juice or water. No pre dinner drink. Meal choices were carrot soup, beef ravioli or chicken quinoa salad. I chose the beef ravioli. It didn’t look like ravioli - more like the tortellini that @kermatu had recently. Meal came with a lovely salad of cucumber, olives, feta and 1 slice of salmon. Overall, it was a tasty meal.

Oh, how I hate it when that happens

That’s what the call button is there for. Repeatedly, ongoing, relentlessly if needed :p

I think it's only 2 crew in the cabin of the E190s so must be needed down back. Happened again on a subsequent flight, though the J FA came up front a couple of times to check on us.

QF918 today. PDB of water only offered to those with infants (I.e. my wife with our 10 month old daughter). Choice of bowl of fruit, pancetta toasted sandwich or cherry tomato quiche lorraine for morning tea. Wife and I both went for the quiche which was delicious. Rhubarb tart for dessert was also a refreshing change from the usual Lindt ball. CSM was very friendly especially with our daughter and happy to top up wine.

Very off topic but as a lowly gold flying trans Tasman economy today I got a welcome with a pre departure drink of a bottle of water plus asked if I wanted anything else now or after take off.

I’m the past couple of weeks I’ve flown quite a few flights and the service from the NZ based crew in economy was better then what I received from AU based crews in business last week.

Additionally they had a cold chicken salad in Y which was great because all recent J meals have been hot options and sometimes I’m not feeling like a hot option.
