Has anyone recently been on QF7 SYD-DFW? I'm going in about a month and am trying to imagine how to spend these 18 or so hours of flight. Leaving here in the afternoon and then arriving roughly the same time but in DFW, that means dinner, then very quickly approaching darkness and then breakfast after a night time sleep I would imagine? Probably some quiches or sandwiches available in between but nothing else- would that be a correct assumption?
Has been a while that I've been flying on such longer routes on QF. Got too used to Qatar's anytime eating in the meantime so I better manage my expectations accordingly
I flew it in late Feb and it's pretty much like this, though going East it's less flight time. iirc it was under 15ish hours when I flew it, it was 14:44 total time (including taxi etc) so actual flight time was really closer to 14 and a half hours. Still a long time of course.
Anyway I had (somewhat) deliberately) stuffed myself in the Flounge trying all the Korean dishes, fried chicken and all that stuff, so I kind of waddled on board in a food coma. Mostly because I prefer the fresh cooked lounge offerings than on board catering. So IIRC I had a lighter "dinner" post take off of a soup course and dessert (iirc it was a fairly decent creme caramel), a few drinks and it was relax time with a movie or two and zone out. These routes are difficult with the time changes to try and manage a mix between leaving the departing timezone (where it's afternoon) and arrival (also afternoon) to try and get into the destination timezone (assuming that being US Central or East time).
IIRC there were some kind of snacks mid flight, but I think I was asleep. I seem to recall going for a stretch and seeing the usual mix of some fruit, chips etc in the galley area and there was a hot option they could offer, but I didn't bother. Strangely, offering a breakfast service at what was afternoon destination time was a little strange I guess but I guess most people's body clocks could treat it like a brunch.
The time actually flew (pun intended) more than I thought it would (while QF22 on the return (DFW-MEL) absolutely dragged - and not just because it was nearer 17 hours elapsed, but it just really dragged on for me and I was questionin g my life choices around hour 15, but that's a whole other story).
So, if you have Flounge access prior, then I'd suggest get a good meal in there, then you can go a bit lighter - if at all - after take off (and given QF international J usually drags a bit, it was still 90 or so minutes before food showed up so time for the food coma to settle a little bit).
