Had the seared beef fillet for main, which was surprisingly tender and well cooked:

Went with the chicken vermicelli salad this morning QF769
Other options were beef noodles and pork stir fry…neither of which I fancied for a morning flight, even the crew joked that this should be a breakfast service.

Meal was nothing to write home about and service so far is nothing remarkable, very slow start to service and crew (so far) have hid in the galley after meal service. The A330 is definitely the best hard product to cross the country though.

(ouch for delay). I saw the DEL flight was delayed something like 12h the other day too.QF39 MEL-CGK 15:25 scheduled dep, 20:39 actual
They look good. Never seen these on J flights ex-AU to the US. Perhaps it's an SEA or Indonesia thing (which would make sense of course). I'd order those if they were on my DFW flight in a few days!View attachment 360957
Bannockburn chicken skewers with spiced cauliflower and pineapple pickle (I often complain about lack of variety on QF, but I'm not sick of this dish yet and will continue to order this whenever I see it... which is basically every ex-Australia flight in J..)
If a 5pm-8pm flight isn’t a dinner, service, it should be. No-one who doesn’t live in a nursing home eats dinner before 5pm and very few in Australia eat after 8pm. By the time you pick up your luggage and get to your hotel, other dinner options will be very limited indeed.I don’t mean to be picky but a quick google of Qantas dinner service meal times reveals the time that dinner is served.
Your flight appears to leave before 5pm so whilst you may be disappointed there are ample resources out there to assist you getting a proper dinner service.
That’s why we are all on here to learn.
I had the Peter Lehmann Portrait 2021 Shiraz on a recent flight and it was quite drinkable .QF441 SYD-MEL 1200 dep (live!)

Potato and leek soup - had way too much dill in the cream, which overpowered the other flavours.

Thai style pork, pineapple and coconut curry - this had great flavour and the pork was tender, would recommend.
The 3rd option was a chicken and cherry tomato salad, but it had run out before reaching us in row 2...
A retail size (80g) block of Koko Black 'All Over Pavlova' chocolate was also given to each pax with a "Merry Christmas".
Wines were:
Peter Lehmann Portrait 2021 Shiraz
Shaw + Smith 2023 Sav Blanc
side thought/question on the chocolate handed out before landing. Nice touch, but I wonder on international flights, technically one is supposed to not take "food served on board" off the aircraft. Now obviously packaged chocolate like this is not an issue not like you're taking some fruit or something - but it raised a question of sorts I suppose as there's usually an announcement about leaving all food served on board (or to that effect).QF35 - 25 Dec 23. Can’t say I noticed any Christmas special meal. PDB drink was Duval. Agree with another poster. Those chicken skewers are a nice start to lunch. Fish was well prepared not overdone, delicious. Fell short as it needed the sauce tho as plus rice it was dry. Mango dessert was the most Christmasy thing I can see. We did get handed out box of koko black chocolates before landing. Crew led by Zeb was friendly and attentive including Brooke and Lucy who was serving my side of the aisle. Only hiccup was a very long pause between appetizer n mains. More than 30 mins after clearing of plates. Beef salad before landing was tasty but beef was borderline dry but still yummy.

mm yes. Feels like I've heard it on flights to USA also, but I accept probably not to all locations I guess. And from the point of view of entering another country - a packaged, processed item like chocolate.. well it could have been picked up in duty free or something and isn't going to be of concern to anyone I would think. Again, it's not so much about the chocolate, just thinking about the general idea. That's for flights to Australia.
In the other direction it can depend on the country.
