SYD-PER QF651 - 3 choices on the 1425 service.

Teriyaki Chicken & Fried Rice
Prawn and Chorizo Paella
Beef Salad

Side salad of Pesto Pasta salad

Went the chicken and it was quite tasty - would eat it again.

Crew super attentive continually roaming topping up drinks.

Pumpkin and feta quiche

One of the better quiches I've had on Qantas, I usually find they're very oily but this one wasn't. Would order again.

Other options:
Hot smoked salmon salad with edamame beans and balsamic dressing
Scones with jam and cream

QF923 CNS-SYD 1225 dep

Chicken thigh in lemon and garlic sauce with vegetables

Bread was stale - CNS bakery supplier mustn't work Sundays. Chicken was exactly what you'd expect, the other options didn't sound particularly enticing to me:

Pumpkin & sweet potato soup
Beef salad with chimichurri dressing

Ugh I am a big fan of Pepe Saya products, and I think I missed out yesterday..

Wait a second! This is @jukebox333's photo from last month?!

On my third sector today, OOL-SYD it was allegedly wagyu eye fillet.

I didn’t bother with a pic because whatever was served was so tough you could have used it as a dart board.*

On my fourth sector, SYD-BNE there was a beef salad or teriyaki chicken with fried rice.

A touch more chilli would have been nice, but this is a personal preference and this was still a nice meal.

Additionally, the CSM on this flight was outstanding.

*If using alleged eye filled as a dart board, please take care as the darts are unlike to penetrate and may bounce back.

This one isn’t bad but it doesn’t really have a big bang! I had it last week on a MEL-SYD and it fills you up but there could be more in the rice and maybe some greens to accompany.

I had pretzels on this eves Syd mel and abstained from the teriyaki or beef salad which seems to be the flavour of the month…literally on short haul.

Hi, just wondering if anyone has been on a morning PER-SYD or evening SYD-PER flight in J recently (in the 737) and knows what the menu is? Trying to decide whether to book a vegetarian meal or whether one of the options is normally vegetarian or pescatarian.

Thanks in advance

I can't speak to those exact routes, but in my recent experiences on east coast flights there has always been at least one vego option.

If you're also able to eat seafood, I wouldn't think it's necessary to preorder. Just try to get a seat in row 1-2 to make sure you get your choice of meal.

Thanks @sudoer - that was going to be my approach, but then I read this post:

Which seemed to indicate no vegetarian or pescatarian option (at least for the lunchtime flight)

Regular Perth vego flyer here. The Plant-Based Dining options haven't extended to domestic menus yet, unfortunately. There are occasionally vegetarian options, but I never chance it. Domestic catering is way below par in general, and if you know you're going to have a meal on the flight imho it's best to pre-book a vegetarian option.

QF 3 Syd to Akl sector this week, food unworthy of business class and cabin crew blamed lacklustre menu on being a short sector. No dessert alternative, or chocolate offered.Tiny tub of Maggie Beer ice cream had an unpleasant grainy texture. Pepe Saya butter was the only quality item on the tray!

Well Qantas profit fell by some 300 mil this year so they obviously can't afford to waste good food on J's! :)

They got printed menus back on the Tasman? Wow, THAT is an enhancement. If we now also brought back the pre-Covid style truly international meal options…

Probably because it's the JFK departure. A bit like how QF5 / QF9 transcon service is a cut above the usual.

Qf 878, slight delayed departure due to late arrival.
Bottle of water handed out before takeoff.
Options: cauliflower soup, chicken cesar salad, lamb casserole with potatoes and greens.

I wanted the salad, but had run out by row 2 (only 3 loaded) had the lamb and Lois sparkling, both pleasant enough. Pink salted vanilla look black for desert. Actively offered top up, pretty efficient service.
