Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Egg fried rice with prawns, shiitake mushrooms, ginger and sesame oil - this was inedibly salty according to my MIL
I can attest to that.

That menu seems like a fail for multiple reasons. QR J menus are miles ahead of that both in what's offered and presentation!

Canape of prawn with potentially a prawn starter. Or perhaps a steak sandwich is now a starter?! Follow by perhaps a main of steak? Or two different ways of having the same fish.

Most of that menu looks like the J menu too.
It is completely uncompetitive for a modern first class soft product.

On descent into MEL from DEL I was just giving some thought to QF J. Hard product isn't the best but it's certainly very far from the worst. Initial meal/drink service is a bit on the slow side, but crew for the most part are excellent. The F&B component is what really degrades the premium product IMHO.

I agree, as a tall person I actually think the seat is quite comfortable due to the better legroom than most reverse herringbone products. Qantas IFE selection is also quite good - it'll never match the ME3, but it's far from the worst.

If Qantas implemented (at least some of) the below their J service would be a much more compelling product:
  • Fast and reasonably priced wifi on all international flights - I will be amazed if Qantas actually gets this off the ground before 2027
  • Bring back Menu Select, or at least make menus viewable online before the flight
  • A real focus on improving meal service times - this should never take 2.5 hours on a 7 hour red-eye
  • Deliver actual dine on demand instead of just alluding to it in the menu introduction (this could help improve meal service times too)
  • Improve the quality of food & beverage - especially wines. I'm also tired of the coughpy takes on foreign cuisine - e.g. "Bannockburn chicken with shoyu broth, tsukune, edamame beans and noodles" is just a concotion of random Japanese flavours/ingredients in an attempt to spruce up ramen, but just makes absolutely no sense. Good ramen is delicious, no need to change it.
  • The option to forego pyjamas + amenity kit for 500-750 points ($7.50-$11.25 Classic Plus value) would be quite popular with frequent flyers I think
It says something that 4/6 of the above points are related to F&B

Terrible lighting on the photos as I wasn't thinking about turning on my fill light. But finally caught the Japanese meal from HND - SYD. Ignore the terrible white balance.

As foe the food itself. It was interesting although it looks a lot better than it tastes. Some nice JP elements here and there but other elements I would say weren't that great (and I've tried all sorts of Japanese food from both living there abd all the travel I've done there).

Interested to know how the service and speed was.
I advised that I wanted just the main, then to get some sleep. The main was served ~1h after takeoff, then I was offered to have my bed made.

The service was... fine, but certainly not the excellent service I had on QF12 F in 2022.

Soup was ok and the snapper tasted better than it looked. The leaves were very good (minimal dressing too). Cheeses were excellent. Wine choice was the Longview Macclesfield Gruner Veltliner which was also excellent.

It's probably just me but I find it very hard to get comfortable in the VantageXL seat, both in lounge and in bed mode. I far prefer the Cirrus and Super Diamond reverse herringbone seats.

I don't know of any other legacy, full-service airline whose IFE does not include any music at all.
I thought music was only removed from domestic IFE. Doesn't the seatback IFE on international services have music?

I wonder if this is aircraft type differences. I noticed ABC news available on A332 QF70 but not available on QF9 on the 787.
My flights were 787s and the A380 so could be. Didn't bother looking on the other 737 flights across the Tasman. The music doesn't appear on the first page when you click-in. Was in the menu though.

Music was completely absent from the IFE on QF59 on 26 March and QF62 on 1 April.
Going OT but the only reason I don't bother looking for music on ANY airline is because I'd rather be listening to my own and until such time that airlines can stream my own playlists I just don't even bother.

First flight on the QF A220. “Southern Indian Chicken Curry” was the only option offered during this evening departure. It was tasty and the chicken was tender. Probably could’ve had more of a kick to it though.IMG_1301.jpeg
