Qantas Business Class meals & menus

The red thing is not cheese. That's red capsicum dip, probably including pine nuts and sun dried tomatoes.
the ones that they store in oily water preservative thingy. And yes always has olives or cheese in it. not saying the red thing is cheese but a wrapper coating for the cheese (yes it does seem to me like it is a type of pepper)
🤣🤣

Yes it was not cheese

More of a dip
Couldn’t really tell by the taste

This is fast becoming the ploughman's plate thread, so may as well add mine:

MEL-HBA 19:45 scheduled flight, Actual departure after 10pm. Other food option was the Mediterranean pizza.

Upon boarding the lovely Jess asked if I'd like a drink. I replied yes, but only if it is wine. She flashed me a great smile and said "Anything is possible in business class";). Oh why was this just a 50 minute flight. Frustratingly she had to greet some other people who had the temerity to board the aircraft as well, but within a couple of minutes she brought me a big plastic cup of red wine. Slightly awkward as everyone walked past but a much appreciated PDB.

Despite the late hour, great energy from the cabin crew and pilots. They all tried to get the word 'pineapple' into every announcement - and they were pretty successful. Very fun flight.

Only criticism is the meal service was a bit slow - but it often is on the 717s if the crew can't set the trolleys up in advance, in my experience.

One thing I don't understand - why do people who visit this thread regularly still seem to order the steak?

It's very hard to get right even with the best execution (though have had good ones on SQ J and EK F before) but Qantas seem to do them particularly bad.
After reading this thread I avoided steak option until finally I took a risk on QF12 last week and got a very decent steak - pleasantly surprised.

Admittedly, I asked the crew if they could undercook it (i.e. cook slightly less than what they normally do). The veggies were nice and a little firm just how they should be.

That brown swirl looks nasty.

We left 30 mins late but made it up during flight. Most in J didn’t eat and went straight to sleep. Crew only offered me 1 option but not sure if there was more.

It was described to me as a beef and mushroom ragu pie with mashed potatoes. Now, I’m no pastry chef but I think that’s a pasty. The mashed potatoes were very bizzare. Absolutely no flavour and dry. The bread was also cold. The pastry its self was actually quite nice though and I ate all of it. Rest of the flights a bit of a blur. Landed pretty much on time.

I actually had something very very similar on LX between LHR and ZRH. Also, there was no choice - it was that or nothing. I liked the simplicity of it.
Well I guess for you it would be Farmer Wants a LIFE🤣🤣

Didn't know they have Chef Ramses on board. The more you know🤭🤭

Unfortunately I wasn't so lucky on QF104 coming home from HNL>SYD in J last week. I too thought I would chance it to be the chosen one that actually got a decent piece of reasonably cooked fillet... but it was a massive fail. The driest, toughest piece of beef I can recall consuming; and I've eaten jerky. The only thing that came close to how bad this thing was, was the chicken dish that followed at the 'dinner' service. At least the drinks were juicy.

I might need to start doing BYO sandwiches for QF J.
It's just too disappointing, most of the time.

Cheers,
Matt.

To be fair I believe the ploughman is served outside of main meal times. I find it spot-on what you would want during those hours.
I dunno- this excuse never worked for me as a.) I am always hungry and b.) meal times are different for different people, especially if one happens to connect from a long international flight. Nothing worse than breakfast in your hotel, followed by breakfast in the lounge, breakfast on your international leg prior to landing and then, surprise, it’s breakfast on your Domestic connection.

And the “it’s similar on BA or LH inner-Europe” argument is also mute as that’s hardly a guarantee for quality.

Let’s not get Qantas have silly ideas and think about all the cost efficiencies if we just did what the Europeans do and got rid of Business class seats altogether while making the middle one a “Biz comfort space” or something similarly silly

I'll actually start with the lounge offering. There was a special on offer that was being served from the small kitchen up on the mezzanine. It was salmon and poached egg served on a potato rosti and was very teasty. Egg was perfectly semi-runny.

The buffet had a lot more on it than on our previous trip. The lounge was busy but not overcrowded. The airport itself was very busy.

The flight itself. The CSM came to me first and asked what I would like to make sure I didn't miss out. I guess I was the only WP flying. An early lunch of pork curry that tasted better than it looked. The salad was shredded cabbage with salmon. There's a bit of a theme here. Sadly left the chocolate in the fridge in our Auckland hotel.

and yes, for a late lunch more salmon, this time with a small greek salad. Again, it was very nice. The red was a 2016 Jim Barry Shiraz, a bottle of which might have just materialised in my overhead locker before we landed :)
